I'm sure they can see it...if it puts you at a disadvantage or not...I can't answer that question...

But I can see that stuff from a mile away so I know a fish can see it when it is right next to it...But if you are too worried about being at a disadvantage then blood knot on a length lof florocarbon or something.

I think they can see it. My wife's 89 year old Grandpa fished with it, he could see it, and he couldn't see much! ;) I'd use Trilene or stren ultra green for panfish, trout, etc. Maxima ultra green for steelies and salmon, pretty hard to see the stuff in the water.

for ice fishing we always use a flouro leader off the hi-vis in .5 to 2lb test.

Does the hi vis line help you detect strikes better ice fishing? I assume you clean up when the fish are finicky with .5 pound test, I didn't even know they made that.

if your a line watcher/pounder type of jigger for the gills thru the ice then yes stren hi-vis gold or something else hi-vis is awesome. just keep dropping poundage on the leader material as the season wears on, the gills get more finicky each day. I use this type of setup all season...using a dropper fly and a heavier jig on the bottom. no bobbers for gill fishing anymore, i'm strictly a line watcher now, for crappies though its back to the bobs.

Been a hi-vis tightliner for panfish thru the ice for years. Last year was the first time that I never used any kind of bobber, and may never use one again. I have always used a 4' clear leader, but have seen lots of guys catch fish without a leader. Only difficulty I encountered has been breakoffs at the knot when going down to a .75# leader. Maybe need to lighten up on the hookset.
Started using hi-vis line in the summer last year, anytime I am fishing vertically, either jigging or with live bait. Usually use yellow Berkley Fireline, again with a clear leader. So far, so good.....both for bass and panfish.
