View Full Version : Basspro Magna reels
I'm planning on getting one.. Has anyone ever used one? I know someone who has the M35, but it doesnt fit the rod I want to use.. So, I'm planning on getting the M30.. I was also thinking about getting an Abu Garcia Abumatic or maybe a Daiwa.. Any suggestions? Or maybe a suggestion for a better reel around the $30 range

Closed face? No such thing as a decent one IMHO
$30 spinning reel... Diawa's bottom line one is clearanced out at Gander Mountains for 29.97- for another $10 your getting alot nicer reel with the Diawa Kastor or the Shimano Sonora- Quantum Icon's (IC10 IC20 IC30)are also on clearance at Gander Mountains for 29.97 normally $50

Well, I really don't like spinning reels.. But, I found a spinning reel that uses a trigger.. Quantum Hypercast Ultra.. Anyone ever used that?

I have used 3 different hypercast models. Coincidentally enough, I own the first hypercast model that was out, and it broke on me today. Dang spool wouldnt move when I reeled in, worm gears weren't touching or something. Anyway, my two newer models of hypercasts work really good. You may also want to look into the "snapshot" type spinning reels. These use the same concept as the hypercasts, but not as big of a trigger, and a little more convenient.
Well, I don't really like spinning reels because you have to touch the line.

I have a Hypercast, in fact I have had it for years. No problems with it all and I still use it. I also was worried about taking the plunge from spin cast to spinning. Using the Hypercast, I learned how to cast a spinning reel without backlash. Now when I use it, I never use the trigger. In fact, I have "graduated" to using spinning reels almost exclusively. Now if I could just do the same with casting reels without backlash....
