I love to fish perch in winter time. However, in sommer time I don't have a boat and can only fishing on shore or use a float tube in still water. Does any one know some good places to access deeper water to fish perch on shore or some inland lakes to access with a float tube? I live in Detroit area, but I don't mind driving a couple of hours. Any infor would be appreciated.

Also, is it possible to fish walleyes on shore too (I am delusional)? I wish there were a big fishing pier built right over the Detroit river.

You can get some walleyes off the wall on the SCR.

"The Wall" Algonac, Marysville and Port Huron all have places where you can fish on the SCR. I don't know, but I'm sure someone else can fill in the details on what the good seasons are to fish in those places...

I have heard that they have been getting wallies off the wall in Port Huron as well. I know that there have been a few posts about shore fishing for wallies in the last month or so.

For perch I would use the pier at Brandenburg Park (On Jefferson between Selfridge and 23).. It is decent at certain times of the year. Use a spreader with golden shiners.

For walleye, I have had limited success at the Algonac Wall (Don't go this weekend because of the boat races)

Marysville and Port Huron wall are much better... Marysville is hot right now!

For directions:
If you don't mind a scenic drive... just take M-29 North (23 mile rd.) and you will hit all three in a row -- About 15 -20 minutes apart depending on how fast you drive.

Hope this helps

Thanks for all of your responses. It really saves me a lot of time to try to drive around and find some places to fish.

I will go to the places you mentioned above and try to hook up my first walleye. If I am lucky, I will post the picture here.

I hooked up my first long nose gar today. I took a picture of it and threw it back to the water. That long nose gar looked as creepy as a bowfin. I would post the picture if someone tells me how.
