I fished all over the state this weekend and have a report in the inland lake fishing, fishing out of st. joe and fishing a NE river. Check out the reports if you wish. Pics in all!

The next mourning I was woke up at 8 AM asking if I wanted to head to west branch for the rest of the weekend. I wasn’t sure but said I would go if we fished for steel. I was still so tired from the day before. My dad agreed to it and we headed out the Memorial Day mourning. We stopped at bunyan town and to my amazement steelhead fishing was over. I thought for sure there would be a ton of fish since I fished the June 15th last year. We first checked out one spot and saw no fish. The water was up really high which I was really happy about. We then headed to another spot and could see there were some fish there. Before fishing them I wanted to check the dam. Bad move! We found some fish, including some monster carp. I tired some yellow egg flies but those fish were too skittish. We found fish and spent most of our mournin on those fish. Our main fly was a an egg fly of different colors. We use different leaders and different weights. We didn’t hook any but had a good time. The funniest part was when I was walking through the mucky water I fell on my butt and some mudd got into my waders. My dad was laughing so hard and making fun of me. Not a second later I look back and my dad fell off the ledge a foot above water (where I had been fishing the mournin with no problem) and was completely drenched. Our friend that was along with us was basically rolling after what he saw.

No fish were hooked there.

We then made out way to another section of the river I like to fish. Had lunch and then walked down to the river. When I turned the corner I saw someone that looked awfully familiar. Why it was Jon(aka ausablesteelhead). Jon and I bs’ed for awhile whily my dad and our friend chit chatted with some fishing women. I then gave it a whirl and Jon gave me some pointers about the ausable. This guy knows his stuff. He then mentioned something a certain color and not 10 minutes later he was into a fish. A 7-8 lb buck that put up a good fight. It finally tired out and I grabbed him by the tail. Half hour later John hooked another one but it turned out to be fouled hook and got off. I hooked a few fish but the fish gods weren’t looking down on me that day. I eventually had to take off and made plans to fish with Jon more this summer.

On our way back from ausable we seen some turkey vultures feeding on a dead deer hit by a car. Actually we seen a lot of those.

It turned out to be an awesome weekend and I can’t wait for the next. Unfo. My fishing time will be limited now. You know how I was mentioning something about a kick in the butt. Yup, I got a job that wants me working all weekends. It pays good but there will be very few fishing oppurtunity’s now: ( WHAT AM I GOING TO DO, lol

Since it’s so late I am just going to post the reports. I am to tired to go back through looking for errors.

Til next time

Your luck sounds a lot like mine last weekend. I fished two rivers in the central area of the northern lower. For two days of trout fishing effort all I had to show was one 6 or 7 inch brookie which, of course, I tossed back. My dad had much the same luck but his was a undersized brown. I don't know what it was; the rivers were up a bit from all that rain, but they weren't chocolate milk or anything. I've been so busy down in SE Michigan that this was my first trout trip of the year. I'll be back up in a few weeks as the fishing usually picks up towards the end of June.
