I live in Ypsilanti but have never fished Ford or Belleville Lake, any pointers? I like to go to Orchard Lake and Whitemore early in the morning, less power boaters around. Bass is the main thing but usually it is anything that is biting!

Ypsi, ever try Silver Lake in the Pickney Recreation area?

Personally, I spend most of my time in Oscoda. However, my mission this year is to find "big water" closer to home, like Sanilac or something. I'm in Lapeer, and I know that there's good fishing out of the thumb, I just haven't fished any of the waters yet. I got my start in Oscoda during the fall runs with an older boat. Now that I have a real boat, I'd like to find somewhere closer to home.

I live in the Western UP, I fish mostly on Lake Superior and attempt to get to Lake Gogebic as much as possible. There are many small lakes in my area but even though I always plan to explore more I always seem to run out of time. All Work and no play . . . .

I live in the Saginaw area. I try to fish the Saginaw Bay when weather permits. If the weather is too bad to chase perch on the bay,I just have to suffer and fish for walleye in the Saginaw and Tittabawassee Rivers.

I am in sales and have the fine state of Michigan as my territory. I usually spend one or two nights a week away from home and manage to squeeze in more than my fair share of fishing. I live in Royal Oak.
I am on my second float tube as the first is looking kinda tired. Too many miles and smiles! I fish a lot of the smaller lakes in Oakland County for everything from pike to 'gills.
We hit Lake St. Clair this spring for smallies and wore out our arms after a few hours. Clouser minnows seemed to be smallie magnets last year.
I also spend a lot of time trout fishing some of Michigan's great rivers for salmon, steelhead and trout.

Moved to Michigan last year. I'm still trying to figure out where to fish. I live in Belleville and as such started fishing on Belleville Lake. I have found a nice smallmouth spot behind some apartments. Caught one that was just shy of 4lbs. I have also fished the Huron at Flatrock. On the right day largemouth fishing can be awesome. Still waiting to hook a steelhead. Maybe this spring. The strangest thing I've caught was a 14" Brown trout in the middle of summer in Newburgh Lake. I don't have a boat, Any suggestions for shorline fishing in my area. I love trout fishing and will be at the Huron at Proud Lake and Paint Creek in Rochester this year.

I live in Honor Mich, and there is no better place to live, if you like fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling. In fact, Sports Afield voted Honor the best town in Michigan for outdoor sports, which also makes it one of the top 50 towns in the USA. Fish the Platte, Betsie, and Big manistee, with occasional forays to the Boardman. Really get wound up in the fall when the cohos show up. Other wise always looking for someone to fish with, especially surf fishing in the fall, as long as you can keep a secret. I know a few spots that have produced well for me off the beaches in the area, and am always willing to try to help if I can, or better yet, recieve advise. I'm sure most of you are better than I at fishing steelies, I do have over 20 years experience at steelie fishing, but always learn something new every year. Give me a hollor sometime, I'll try to arrange a time when I can go.

I live near St. Joe. I live to fish the big lake in the summer months. The steelhead and kings call me. I can hear them now. My favorite type of fishing for them is downriggers and surface lines. There is something about the screaming of the lines when a huge king slams a downrigger!

Steve, I have yet to make it out to any water out that way. Most of my fishing buddies live in Oakland County and it is hard to convince them that there is good fishing over here. That is a goal of mine for this summer!

Chad in Osceola Co. here. Lots of small lakes to explore, but especially favor the Muskegon River for smallmouths.

I reside in Marysville and mostly go after walleye in the St. Clair River - occasionally steelhead or salmon that run up into the Black River. I'm more dedicated to hunting but fishing is certainly one of my favorite out-of-season distractions ... along with shooting and reloading.

Hi, Crash from Brooklyn, No not that one, New York!! I grew up in Lapeer and spent my childhood stomping around Holloway Res. and the Lapeer area lakes (West, Long, Pleasent, Sawdell.) Used to work on my uncle Salmon Charter in Manistee. I come back atleast twice a year just to fish. New York fishing is fine, but it just seems a little strange having the World Trade Center shadow coming across the water while your batteling
Stripers!! My favorite Lake is West Lake, just a little dirt pond really but Huge fish be swimming there!! Holloway would have to come second, even in the bad days we used to pull some big eye's and pike out of there.
This wont be my only post so I'll see you around.

Just happened to stumble on this site. Since it deal's with Mi. fishing, all the better. I live in Charlotte, grew up in Lansing. Fish mainly for Smallies in river's and stream's. Re-formed trout chaser. Love the small river's. Lake's have gotten way too crowded. Anybody else chase the River Bronzeback?

Steve,

Thank's for the welcome. So what's up with all these icon's I see above this message. (Message Icon) What does each one mean? I also noticed you got 5 Buck Head's, some got 1, other's 2, and other's novice, like me. Is this in relation to the number of posting's, time on the board? Not criticizing, just curious.

My first report would be from this last week-end. Fished the Grand out by Portland. Water is big time low, already summer level. Earliest I've ever been out. Water is 56 degree's, with a lot of dead vegetation on the bottom. (Need a good rain for a flush) Used a gold sparkle shad plastic. First fish was about a #9 Steelhead. Big suprise. Got 3 Smallies and 1 Carp in the 12+ lb. range. Slow, but will only get better.

Hello everyone
I just got hooked up with this site a week or so ago so a little about myself. I am a retired auto worker, Chrysler for 33 years. I send most of my time fishing, I live near lake st. clair and have fished this lake for 35 years, at one time it was the best walleye lake in the mid west, in my openion, but it seems the zebra muscles have ended that. I ice fish Simco then smallmouth on St.Clair then as soon as the salmon start to show up in the thumb area I spend most of the spring chasing them. Any help I can give a fellow fisherman I will be glad to contribute. I believe in catch & release and preserving our natural resorces.

HI,

Believe it or not, I like to fish Lake Interstate near Lansing. You can see this body of water as you drive down 69. It is an artificial lake but has good pops of bluegill, bass and catfish. My friend had one on last year that must have been over 5lbs. It is a bit annoying after a few hours because of the train and highway noise but it is a really cool body of water. I'd like to go scuba diving there sometime this summer to check out the structure first hand.

Live in Huron Township, New Boston area. Early in the year (beginning about now)I like to fish the Detroit River mouth for walleyes. Mostly vetical jigging with minnows. Later on jigs tipped with a piece of crawler or drifting with crawler harness. Late spring and summer I like a slow drift on Brest Bay for perch and some walleye. Up near Alpena, Long Lake is a killer for big smallies in July & August while at our cottage. Was an avid steelheader for years, but not these past few. Love to smelt dip, but of course thats now a hit or miss crap shoot. Anyhow, look forward to exchanging ideas/information.

I grew up on the west side, Oceana county, fished all over the county. Little lakes, big lake, Silver lake, Stoney lake, Pentwater, Ludington and anywhere else we could drop a line.
Living in Westland now, it's pretty hard to get up there. We do manage 7 - 8 trips a year, not including deer season. We are heading up there thursday night to see whats left of the steelies and browns.

I usually fish walleye in the St.Clair
River along with steelhead, king's,&
brown's in the early spring also in the
river. Haven't been able to put the boat
at my dock last year and this year because
of low water levels. Guess I better get my trailer fixed up so I can haul it to the launches. Also fish Lexington in a friends
boat for Trout and Salmon. Caught a nice
King there two weeks ago. Maverick, you're
from Marysville too. Trout said he grew up in Marysville. I have been living here for
13 years. Steve, Thanks for such a GREAT
FORUM for us outdoorsmen to voice our ideas
and opinions. Stumbled across this web site
looking for Turkey Hunting News on the web.
Haven't been into fishing and hunting too
much the last two years. My oldest son who
was 14 passed away on May 14th 1998. Thank
God I have two other boys who are twins. They
are 12 and looking forward to the upcoming hunting season. GREAT SITE, GREAT FORUM,
Thanks

I'm a former Yooper, but now am doing time near Port Huron. I fish the St. Clair river for walleye and Lake Simcoe for perch. When I'm not hunting walleye, I hunt whitetails, however, sometimes I have to work so the family can eat. Darn, I wish work didn't have to interfere with the important things in life!!!!

Hey Remfire,

You have to work so the family can eat? I thought that's what all the hunting and fishing was for! Seriously, do you catch any other species in Lake Simcoe other than perch?

RemFire
05-13-2000, 01:50 PM
Nucks, While there are many fish species in Simcoe, perch is by far my favorite. If your want crappie or bluegill (and I'm talking big BIG ones) try Rice lake which is about an hour SE of Toronto. Early to mid June is the best time. Even my dog could limit out there. Anyway, Simcoe is for fun, my Dad and I started going a couple of times a year for the last couple years. Sometimes we do good, sometimes we do great. About the time I run out of perch to eat, the eyes are back in the St Clair River. Man, it's tough living here. (sic) Anyway, good luck.

Hi all, I live in Macomb county and fish Lake St Clair and Anchor Bay. In the summer I fish mostly for Bass and Walleye, but still find time to anchor and go after perch. Through the ice I like to go after perch and jig for crappie. This year, I'll probably troll for Musky, its sposed ta be excellent out in front of my house. Oh yeah to Fishook...St, Clair is still one of the best wallye lakes, but because of the zebra muscles and clear water you have to fish after dark. Nice to meet you all! <---<<<

I live in Dowagiac, MI home of the Heddon Lure and of course I love to fish! Some of my favorite lakes include Diamond, is Cassopolis, Magician, in Sister Lakes, the Mill Pond, here in Dowagiac, and the St. Joe River especially below the dam in Berrien Springs. I love fishing for largemouth and smallmouth, bluegills, wally's, stellie's, and kings. Also have a little glare for some bullhead once and a while. If anyone has any good tips about catching wally's in either Diamond or Magician Lake I would really appreciate the help. Them little buggers can be tough sometimes. Thanks alot!
