Hit the Bay with a buddy of mine for a Walleye run. Started out from Smith's Park launch in B.C. and made our way to the Bay. Fair amount of debris in the river still but not too bad.
That really changed when we hit the Bay waters, though. Damn, like a slalom run. Everything from a mass of cattails with empty crawler containers and plastic pop bottles mixed in it floating along up through branches and then dang near full trees ! :( What a drag. The size of trees that would definitely put you out of commision should you hit them going any speed at all. 20' stuff, 20" in diameter. PLENTY of it. (@$$%*!#!&%!!!) First two miles out the mouth is the worst of it. At times you had to literally steer from left and right like you were dodging the potholes on a washed out road. Would never THINK of going out in the evening for a night run, no way in the dark.
Now then, the poor fish report ! Went to the north (west side of the channel), first mistake. Should have went to the east side instead. Pulled meat, cranks, spoons, back to meat everywhere from 12' to 22' and never had a bump. Called on the radio for a bit and talked with Buckmaster, his group had a couple fish on meat but they were working their way to the east side also. :) (smart boys) We were too discouraged by this point to either run over to the east or farther north toward Au Gres where the fish were.
Most fish being caught were on the east side of the channel off Thomas reef area, 12' - 20', pulling meat was the ticket with b.b.'ers along with some fish being taken on tots (Black/Gold) from talking with the boats out there. My next run I know where I'm heading first for sure.
At the launch on return, (VERY slow ride :yikes: ), couple boats came in from the east and had their limit of really nice fish, 18" - 26"'ers !!! Dang ! :tdo12:
