I know I posted about this lake this past winter but I'm back again. We are leaving on vacation for lake Independance Monday June seventh. If anyone has any tips or hot spots to share about this lake let them roll. We will be fishing for perch and walleye and maybe spend some time trying to catch a pike or two.
This will be our first year fishing this lake. If anyone knows what bait/lure works well please let me know. I thought we would start with crawler harness' and do some drift fishing. We have three small kids so trolling wont do. Maybe some small jig heads tipped with a crawler or leach. I cant wait.
Thanks, Joe

Hi Joe. I assume you'll launch from Perkins Park on the west end of Lake I. Go right across to the north side...a short ride of less than a mile. Stay out in 8-10 fow and head east. Not too far along the north shore you'll see a big red/white house that has a lighthouse for decoration right in their yard. It's a BIG lighthouse. Fish about 6-7' under a slip bobber with nightcralwers. There are zillions of minnows in the lake, but I've found that a big crawler is what you'll get jumbo perch on. I anchor and sit...then move 50' if I get no action in about 15 minutes. You can drift, but the speed of the drift will probably lift your bait too high. Morning is unquestionably best for perch. Trolling that same stretch(out in 10') in the evening with a crawler harness will probably get you some walleyes. The last hour of light is better than the other 14 hours altogether for walleyes. I envy you, as I won't get up there until August. It's a magnificent place to fish. I hope you get a few of the GIANT perch L.I. is famous for. Good luck.

Valgang, Go over to Twin ponds and get about 1/2To a pound of leeches. Use the slip bobbers and fish the 8-12 fow. I have a friend who will be up there next week also he leaves on Sat.. He got about 40 using the leeches and slip bobbers last year. This is a good way to fish with the kids also.
