This may be a stupid one, but I need to know more about how you guys who fish the breakwalls get your hands on those long long landing nets (i.e. 20-footers and longer)? Are they just fabricated from a bunch of extension pieces? Or are they sold as a kit somewhere?

Check out Ed Cumings Inc. in Flint.
www.cumingsnets.com
They make exactly what you are looking for and are very strong nets. They sell components to make your own nets too. I have a very long extendable pier net.

All the info you should need is in this thread:

thanks scotty...i'll give 'em a call and find out what they have. i've never fished any piers, but one trip to fish for walleye and steelies from the breakwall in port austin last summer quickly revealed what i needed to get my hands on before more fishing trips this year.

i use an extension pole from a painters roller. took about a half hour to adapt it and it was found in the trash.it also extends from 8 to 16 feet and locks by twisting it.same exact size aluminum tube. just drill one hole and mount the net locking device from the other net.works for me Dan

Roof rake handle works perfect - 3 five foot sections clipped onto the net works perfect for PA.

10 ft pvc schedule 30 on my net. The net tube fits perfectly inside the pvc tube. 2 holes with screws/thumbscrew nuts. Cost 3-4 dollars total!
Get the pvc from home depot or lowes.

I bought a pole pruner at at yard sale for $2. A cheap Ranger net from Meijer fits inside the end and I secured it the same way Bilgerat did his.

A few days ago I screwed up and tried to "leverage" a big carp up onto a raised bank and broke off the net handle and mangled the end of the pruner. Shoulda brought the netted fish down below me and raised it hand over hand, but as usual...I wasn't thinking. :o

Tomorrow I'm going to cut off the mangled ends and re-drill.
