Looking for any information on location. And how to fish for them? Thanks Fatcat.

Here is a link from Texas. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fish/infish/species/rdr/rdr.htm
I've caught them, but never targeted them. From what the article says, doesn't look like a surface feeder.

I have caught what I though were red ears in LSC ice fishing. Are they non-native?

FatCat,
Many southeast Michigan lakes contain them. Scout the shorelines in the spring for spawning beds. You'll catch them along with other sunfish. I use waxworms or nightcrawlers on a size 8 long shank hook under the smallest bobber I can find. The beds I fish are usually in only a foot or two of water so I usually have the bobber only a foot or so above the bait. I love catching redears.
