baby sauger, or maybe a baby saugeye at a hatchery. could even maybe be a cross between a perch and a walleye, since they are related so closely, cross-breeding can happen.

I did a quick internet search and it does look like a Zander (Stizostedion Lucioperca) as "redshirt32" mentioned.

perchdarter?

Lunker.

I think your guess is the closest. I pulled this off another fishing board where they were searching for an answer to the fishes identity themselves. I sent this picture off to my DNR buddy for indentification, but he hasn't answered my mail yet. I personally guessed it at a type of Darter called the Stickleback. I'll let everybody know as soon as my DNR bud gets back to me.

Keep the guesses coming though, as it's true indentity isn't known as of yet, and the answers are funny.

logperch

It's a LOGPERCH!

The wide-ranging logperch is one of our biggest darters. It lives in the St. Lawrence River, the Great Lakes and their tributaries.

Identification: The logperch is a long, slim darter that reaches a length of four or five inches. It has distinctive “tiger stripes” along its sides. The thin stripes are dark-olive or black on the pale-yellow or greenish-yellow body, crossing the fish’s back and extending toward its belly. The first dorsal fin is spiny, the second, soft-rayed. The soft dorsal fin and the caudal fin have dark markings on their rays. During the breeding season, the yellowish color of the males becomes more intense, and they also develop small, fleshy projections, called tubercles, on the belly and the underside of the fleshy part of the tail. The logperch’s head is conical and pointed and its mouth is thick-lipped, suited to its rooting way of feeding.

usually darters like cooler moving water like spring fed streams... there are i believe 11 or so species of darters that inhabit michigan waters, some of them being absolutely gorgeous (orangethroat darter and fantail darter for instance). I do not know if you could keep them in aquaria adequately without maybe a chiller and flow system like some people have.

Although being a cold water fish these darters can be kept in an aquarium providing there is a flow system.they manage to tolerate water as high as 80*they seem to like much cooler water water like around 60* or so.I made a chiller for a fish tank out of a small air conditioner before and manged to keep a few trout in the tank also.Rainbows at least one strain of them can tolerate water up to 80* but probaly not for long.I have put many of differnt species of stream and lake fish in aquariums back in the day when i was into that sorta thing.I used to have 5 fish tanks set up before,Everything from 10 gallon up to 100 gallon
