Hello everyone,

I am new to these forums, but I thought they would come in handy for the low down on some northern fishing. The family is going camping next weekend the 14th to the 16th and we will be staying at the Tawas Point State Park. So, we were kind of curious if anyone has been that way recently and what seems to be biting the most. I appreciate any feedback I can get....thanks!! :)

Luv2fish.

What is your fishing status? That is... do you have a boat of your own that will be with you at the park? Are you strickly a shore/pier/dock fisherman? Are you a stream man with waders? Would you consider a BIg Lake charter trip in the nearby town of Oscoda? You might get more answers to your question if some of these unknows were known.

Hey walleye express,

Thank you for your reply. Sorry about the lack of info. The anwer to your questions are, we do boat fish, and fish off shores and docks, and we are not quite into the wader thing yet. However, this weekend in particular we will not have the boat. I believe the intention is off shore fishing. About this charter though, do you have some more info about it? I would be interested in finding out more. Let me know. Thanks.

P.S. the correct term in this case would be "stream woman" :)

From the dock in E Tawas you can target walleye, browns and perch. If you have kids along it is a safe place for them to fish.

Try the mouth of the Tawas River for steelhead, they linger there into late May.

I havent been up there in a while, but over easter, they were getting steelies, browns, huge lakers, and some perch from the pier. Didnt see any walleye caught. 1 whitefish was caught as well.

luv2fish, you may also want to check out Oscoda. At the mouth of the AuSable River the access is great and the fishing can be good. Try the evenings for walleye. Bunyan Town at the bridge has information on charters. Bring warm clothes ,the wind coming off of the lake will keep the air temperatures brisk for a while. Good luck! :Welcome:

Hey guys...thank you so much for the info. Hopefully we will have luck and come home with some decent fish. One other question...does anyone have any suggestions on what we should use? We are planning on using little cleos and stickbait...if there are any other suggestions we sure could use them.

Thank you again!! :)

Hey luv2fish,

There is all kinds of fishing in the area. How many of you are planning on fishing. Do you guys go up there alot. I have a place in East Tawas. If you go alot I would be willing to meet you some time and do some fishing and show you some more specific spots to do some good fishing. But for now the Ausable river is a good bet walley and steelhead at this time are around the mouth. Go at night and cast stick baits especially a countdown rapala they work good for the eyes at night. And the pier at tawas holds some pike on the inside cast around you might hook up with some and there are some browns and walleys being caught off of the outside of the pier. I hope this helps.

Outdoorzman 1, thanks for the reply and all the great info. This weekend in particular there are three of us going. It is my first time up there but my fiancee and his buddy have been up there a few times. I guess how well we do on the fishing and how much we like the area will determine if we will be up that way more often. If that is the case we will definitely have to meet up sometime. Thanks again.

Hey everyone....

Thanks for all the info. Leaving in two days and I am excited :bouncy: Hopefully we will have some luck up there since our last trip to the PM was pretty much a flop, saw a lot of salmon just couldn't catch one. Oh well...regardless of what happens I still live by my motto (as seen below) especially since I am taking a day off of work just to get there a little earlier. Thanks again for your replies!! :)
