I have been hunting hard this season and the only birds close enough had been jakes and hens...until Sunday. My dad and I headed out to our land in lower Gratiot County. My dad had killed a nice Tom on opening day there and we knew it was good for at least a couple more long beards. We were hunting the evening so we decided to hit the clover for a few minutes and then setup for the evening near the woods. We got out at 5:30p. My dad did some aggressive calling and we waited. Within 5 minutes a nice tom skirted the clover field in full strut. It was beautiful. He got to about 20 yards and I took him. By 5:35p my hunt was over. I am very happy with this bird.

Stats: 9 3/4" beard - 3/4 & 7/8" spurs - 22lbs on the nose. I was surprised by his weight. My dad's turkey was 20.75lbs and we thought that was pretty big.

Good luck!

Hey Backstrap,

Nice bird! Just drooling at all the hero shots and I stumble on your ugly mug. It looks like the new Montefeltro can dole out the High Velocity medicine, huh? I forgot to ask you, which choke are ya usin'? Shells?

My M1 has some killer patterns out of the Kick's choke. Shot it last weekend at 30 and 40yds and killed every paper plate we shot. Trouble is, those paper plates don't deep fry so well. I'd better get out and put bird out of the procreation business.

Well, once again nice bird. Tell your partner in crime good luck!

Grey -

It was the Montefeltro - FC - 3" 6 shot. I'd love a turkey choke for this gun. You'll have to talk to Phil about this morning. All I'll say is that he had a really good hunt.

Sounds like you are ready for the north country birds. Good luck. I hope to see the video.

Talk to you later.
