I bagged my first turkey on Saturday morning at about 7:30! Heres the story!
I got down to where i was going to hunt at about 6:00 AM. Just at light I heard gobbles of to my right. I heard nothing by me. After flydown all the gobblers to the right, kept going right. I was angry. But then i heard gobbles to my left! I couldnt see a gobbler and the gobbles ceased. I caught some movement out of the corner of my eye and turned to see a turkey running away, i thought i spooked it and got really bummed out. I hung my head to the right in hopes of seeing one of those gobblers, but saw none. I turned my head back to the left and there stood a black bird with a beard. My gun was down between my legs and the turkey caught my movement. I stayed as still as i could and the tom started moving to the right. He went behind some trees. When he was behind them i got my knee up and my gun on it, and took the safety off. He stepped about 2 more feet and WHAM! Down he went. I paced it off, it was about 21 yards!
My dad couldnt believe that a 13 year old boy out hunted him this year ;)
The tom was 20 pounds.
9 inch beard
1 inch spurs.
