Just got my jackplate and its going to be installed on one of the upcoming weekends. I would like to do it myself, but I have limited Knowledge. I know I will have to use some marine silicone, and I would like to use a backing board. I have a mercruiser i/o and no swim platform. If anybody has installed one of these any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Here's a Pic, hopefully I did it right.

It's really not that hard. I helped Esox install his. But his was an electric so it was more complicated I'm sure. Looks like from the picture that yours is a manual so it should be a piece of cake. The hardest part is removing and reinstalling the motor. We had a chain fall so it was pretty easy. We just put a strap around the motor and lifted it up and removed the mounting bolts and swung the motor away from the transom. Then we bolted up the jack plate and bolted it in place then rehung the motor on the mounting plate. The worst part was the wiring and such. If you've got a hoist of some kind it shouldn't be hard at all. Just take your time and follow the directions and you'll be fine.

Good luck !

I installed a manual "kicker" model many years ago on the back of my
20' SeaRay. It worked like a champ...]

I'm a hack and a klutz but I followed the instructions and did plently of
planning in both the up and down position of the engine before mounting.

I went through the hull and backed it with LARGE washers and some
silicone seal. You want to spread the load of the bolts as much as possible
over the hull.

Planning the position is important because once mounted you can't move it
with making holes in the hull....so plan, plan & plan again...take your time!

I had a 7.5 Johnson on mine...it had a long shaft so I planned for the height
to insure the prop & intake would be in the water even in rough conditions.

I also planned that the engine would be up high eough to clear the water
when under way with the big engine. Mounting left to right is easier
since you have to decide on which side to mount then center between
the transom of the big engine and side of the boat....Its not rocket science,
just use the template, common sense and take your time.... :bouncy:
