ok tore out the lower unit this afternoon and pulled the thermostat.
thermostat housing pretty dirty lots of scale but not plugged blew out with an air compressor had to of been the sticky stat

then the impeller still intact but obviously worn

then the housing itself def. showing signs of wear from the impeller brass center. and the screws were bad to remove almost snapped one aluminum had taken its toll and shows this housing hasnt been apart in years

so looks like the main culprit was the sticky thermostat hoping to test but dont now the specs as far as when it is suppose to open up just buy a new one i guess. then a new impeller probably a housing ...which is my question do you think ill need a new housing too?

I'm not mechanical by any means but if I'd done the work you have I'd only want to do it once. Change it all now and you don't have to worry about it.

well its all back to normal one new impeller nad a new thermostat and it spits water like the day it was sold in 68'. amazing what new parts can do! a huge thanks to vans sports ctr in grand rapids they have everything in stock and are priced right , they also ship everyday ups if ya dont wanna make the trip. they have everything you need for a boat motor new or old i i mean real old thay still got it

Great job Chad! Gotta love tuning up any kind of small engine, be it outboard, lawn motor, snow blower, etc.
