Where can I get a cheap pair of oars for my POS flat bottom boat? I don't want to spend alot and would prefer wooden oars instead of the aluminum ones.

Since I've had no responses and the oars I'm seeing are 50-60 bucks a pair I think I'm going to try making a pair. I know....cheap bas$tard! I found a good plan on the internet, but was wondering if anyone else has tried making oars before. If this works I'll only have about 25 bucks into my boat!

Dude, meijers, Kmart, Dunhams, Sports Authority, Wal-MArt, Boat stores, etc... all have oars. I cant imagine you can make them any cheaper than you can buy them... I dont think they're that much, but maybe I'm wrong...

Bass Pro Shops has them, just to give you an idea of the price. They look like pretty nice wooden ones. http://www.basspro-shops.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=23396&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults

Man, post a message asking for a suggestion and you get nothing. Post a message suggesting you are going to do something supid and everybody jumps right in! Thanks for the suggestions just the same. the only oars I've found so far are 50-60 bucks, does that sound about right?

Just checked Bass Pro shops as kbkrause suggested and the 7' oars are 29 bucks each ($58 pair plus tax).
Beave.....a pocket knife?! If I'm going to cut my fingers off I'll be doing it with power tools!
Mitch....it could happen!
ESOX......where on 8 mile would that be?
Rough water - it's the zen of oar making. You are not really making oars if all you are thinking about at the time is fishing. I have a not so rare disease it's called "I can do that"!
Riverboy....10' oars! It's not the size of the oar, it's how you row the boat!
Ok...this has been fun, but I think I am really going to try making them. It really doesn't look that hard and the one's I've seen look pretty good too. At a cost of $0 how can I go wrong? I'm not fishing for anything right now anyway, so I'm not missing out on any fishing....yet. When I get done perhaps I'll post some pics for you all to scrutinize, but then you never know....hand made oars by the Trout, could be my calling!
Later!
8 mile and Southfield, across the street from Cheetas.

I don't want to see pictures, I want to see them in action, which means you will have to take me fishing with you. Good luck, your a good sport taking all the slams. Good to see people can still be creative. :D

The boat I have was given to me and I'm not sure how well it floats yet! but once it's in action you'll all have oar envy!
I can take these types of slams all day long, I get worse from my boss all day every day......man I gotta find a new job! Thanks though.

they really are easy to make. Rip a 2x4 down to 2x2 and use plywood screwed on for blades. Don't laugh they work!

Finally got my cheap ***** around and made some oars for my free boat. They worked great and cost me nothing (did them with scraps I had). Here's pics as requested. I think I'm going to make some more for my brohter. Let me know if you care for any details.
