If you can't find "Sea Foam", just try a spay type "De-Carb". I used some in my old Evinrude and it made a world of difference !
Good luck.

if she is a 2-stroke outboard then don't waste your money on premium gas it won't really do it any good,,,in fact your motor will make less power with 94 octane then 89 octane..
as far as cleaning out the carbon a lot of people like the seafoam you mix with your fuel like Fishcapades said above,,,,or a good spray can cleaner like merc power tune also work very well like Jpollman said.
either way will work and a good de-carbing can do wonders for an old outboard

Can you use seafoam as a preventative against future build up or is that over kill?

Water works good as a decarb. I use a spray bottle and pump it to the carberator while running. Spary quite a bit as the engine is throttled above idle to bog it down a little. It works and it is reasonably priced.
