I just noticed that the capacity plate on my new used 14' 6" Princecraft says it is rated for 30 HP and it came with a 40 HP on it. The dealer says no problem, it will be okay. He is not a Princecraft dealer and Princecraft says they can't recomend it because they never tested it with that motor.

Princecraft does have the same size boats in their new brochure rated for 40 HP.

I don't plan on pulling hole shots or running wide open. I did run it wide open once to see how fast it went and frankly it is a little to touchy for me at top speed. What do you experience boaters think? Too much, get a smaller one or okay to run. Thanks for the help.

Invite me and Polar Bear out fishing with you .I just bought a new 25 hp for a boat rated for a 40 hp tiller, I'm not going to break any speed records but seems to troll down nice . What dealer did you get this rig from? Good luck

You might want to check and see if your insurance policy could be voided in case of an accident. Better safe than REALLY sorry.

My guess is, that the engine is fine, the ratings are not always dead on for HP and I also had a 40 merc that really was a 30 something in reality. Never had a prob with my smokercaft in that situation.

I would add this...putting a 15 hp Evinrude on a 12 ft Meyers flat bottom rated for a 3 hp mtr is not recommended and structurally it will require modification.....While it is fun to skip across the water surface at what seems to be Mach 3 testing has revealed a definite tendency for the front end of the boat to rise and literally begin to cause the boat to become airborne & flip backwards over itself. (This event is not recommended for those of you interested to try at home). Anyway....a lil real life humor never hurts.. :coolgleam
