I just picked up a nice 1999 Fisher Hawk 160. Nice boat, but of all the weird thigs, the seat posts are TOO tight in the floor bases. I just about pop a nut trying to get them in and out.
I looked at a ton of boats with really wobbly seats, so I'll take this problem:D
Any ideas on making them easier to move around? I will want to move them to the frontdeck/backdeck "bass fishing" spots.
The previous owner put grease on them, and I'm wondering if that might have hurt, not helped. But, he had a problem before since it drove him to put the grease on.
Any ideas would be apreciated.
See you on the water.

I have this problem with my boat and the best solution I have found is using oil. I suppose any oil would work but I have been using some air compressor oil that I had lying around. I just put a little on a rag and wipe it around the pedastal's on the seat and around the inside of the seat mounts. It does wear of but one application last about a month.
I would have to say the grease idea would work but that stuff just gets everywhere.
Oh yea, congrats on you new boat. :D

When I bought my boat, all my paperwork for the seats said "Never use any type or lubricant on pedistal mounts". I know alot of guys do, but your not supposed to. I would hate to be the one in the seat when the driver punched it, and the pedistal came loose and fell out.
I used a bag of ice right at the base of the pedistal for a few minutes, and mine came right loose (I read this trick in a magazine somewhere). Now I just keep them moving every time tho boat goes out. Eventually, they will loosen up and become alot easier to remove.
Of course, Wednesday I wanted to remove the passenger seat and put it in the back, and we could not get it out. But, come to think of it, that one has never been moved since I got the boat. I always use the rear seats. I guess I'll have to get the ice out break it free. I want glide rides in there anyways, so that will be my excuse.

I forgot to say that my seat bases have some type of plastic bushing. I wondered if the grease may have swelled it, maiking the probelm worse.
I will try the oil trick. The grease just makes a mess.
Have you thought about sanding? Either the pedestal or the base. try to make it smaller? I'm just worried I might end up with the oppisate problem!

Mine have the plastic bushing also and it does'nt seem to bother them.
I have thought about the sanding idea but your right you might end up with them too loose.
