Still early, when the smelt and bait fish go through time to fish.

Water temp still is not right. I have fished the last 20 years over at the river. Fishing hasn't been that great the last 5 years.
Hopefully with the water levels up it will make a difference. We made up a chart for the time to fish. Usually end of april and the whole month of may, and june. Need warm rain. At port huron that whole breakwall structure is a fish magnet. We mostly have fished from shore, and we have caught way much of our share of fish. The clair river has oh so much to offer. Some day i'll move over there. Love the sight and scenery! Good Fishing all!

You think you might want to share that time table with us?:)

The way I read it, the timetable was "Usually end of april and the whole month of may, and june." Tell us a little about the other 9 months of the year? Another question I have for you is, do boats ever come controlled drifting down through your guys wall fishing area, and if so, what's a safe, and more importantly, respectable distance to stay away from the wall? Personally, I've always felt that the wall fishermen deserve there space, and have never taken a boat through there. Nor would I now. Just wondering if the times are a changing.

Oh, By the way. Welcome to the site bigggamedr. I look forward to your future reports. Any thing you can add about walleye fishing in the St Clair River would be very much appreciated.

I have to agree with the end of April, haven't had much luck before then. I'm planning my first trip this year on the 24th.
15 more days. ...................Bob B.

I have found that you start catching the hawgs at the mouth of the river about the second week of may but My absolute favorite time to walleye fish is from late July until the end of sept on the canadian side of the river across the river from the lighthouse
drifting at night with a bare hook with just a small piece of crawler the fishing can be awsome the fish you catch this time off year are great eaters 2-3lbs

The thing I always wondered is if your fishing accross from the light house, in Canadian waters, I would guess It would be concidered "lake Huron Canadian waters'. If so do they have the same silly slot limit as the river and Lake saint clair?

JoeG If I'm river fishing especially SCR . I totally avoid any wall that has fisherman. Most of the year, to fish a spot on the river you would have to slid in close, putting your boat with in there fishing zone. There is lots of wall and areas that foot fisherman can not reach. JMO.

Ed S. I agree with the lilacs Theory for The SCR and boat fishing Lake Saint Clair. It feels like it takes forever for those thing to bloom some years.
We used to have a shrub in our yard that would get early yellow blossoms before leaves. (not sure what it is called) When that shrub bloomed with yellow flowers The det river would Zoom. In fact Esox has one of those shrubs in his yard, I'll have to driver by and take a gander :)

if you can understand the canadian fish guide "good luck" there is no size limit on walleyes north of the north channel but I always follow mich law because I have to beach My boat on the mich side of the river just north of the coast gaurd station and have been checked more than once

I agree Ed M. That's why I've never boated thru there. But you do see boats drifting out in the middle or so at night. I was kinda wondering if a little closer to shore, maybe 1/4 of the way in from shore, would be productive. I'm talking in the neighborhood of maybe 800 to 1000 feet from the wall, just wondering out loud.
Ain't had the nerve to try the SCR at night yet, but I'm thinking this is the year.

Ive fished port huron for years and the lilacs theory is right on the money As far as drift fishing as long as your out of casting range your ok Also have seen many boats come in to the side of a hole and anchor to cast p.s. cant wait to smell the lilacs :D :D

Thanks for the heads up on that one Slayer. I can appreciate giving the wall guys there space, but I've never gotten a 2 pound triangle or 1 pound pyramid out more than 100 feet or so......
