Well my dad and I made it out for about 1.5 hours Wednesday night. Got a very late start. Put in at Riverview and had a bit of a ride on our hands. Had to be some of the biggest waves I have ever seen in all of my 22 years right between Grassy Island and BASF. We ended up with 1 27 1/2 " male walleye caught between Pier 500 and the Wyandotte boat ramp.
Here is the picture.

All I ended up catching was a stick and a head gasket from some type of engine. I may post a picture later if i'm not too embarassed. :o The water clarity seemed to be fairly decent although I had sunglasses on. I believe we talked to MSUICEMAN (if it wasn't looked just like him)and another fine gentleman in the boat with him and a dog. My dad tried to be funny in asking if the dog had found any fish for them. Anyhow, good maiden voyage even though it only lasted 1.5 hours. That ride back was pretty cold. Good luck to everyone!

Ju 30-30 thats a nice fish considering weather and time spent fishing. were you jigging or pulling wire?

Made my first trip yesterday also. Put the boat in at Sterling and headed up the river. Got to the south end of the Livingston channel and it was so rough, I decided to turn around and head back. This was my first time up in the river. Were the big waves unusual? I thought it must have something to do with the current. The lake was fairly calm. If you were coming from the Jackson area, where would you put the boat in to fish the river? With the change in the walleye rules, I need to learn how to be a River Rat!!

MSUiceman was fishing with me yesterday, I had my Brittany, Maggie along for the ride.
We started about 11 am and went upriver past the Rouge and did a nice long drift back to the Wandotte launch area.
We ended up fishing from the launch down to the BASF wall just trying to avoid some of the wind, surprisingly boat control was not that much of a problem for me.
We fished from 11 am until 8 pm.
I managed to get one 24 incher about 20 minutes before you got yours.
We only seen 3 fish landed for all the time we were out there.
Yours, mine and one other one down by the wall.

Bill B... I come from the Jackson/Irish Hills area... I normally put in at Wyandotte unless we know we are going to spend the day in the Treton, in that case we put in at Elizibeth Park which is on the north side of the stacks...

A better question is how did you fair on Lake Somerset over the winter ;)

Hey Jeff, Thanks for the info. If you're familiar with Lake Somerset at all, you know that it is a good fishing lake. I've lived on the lake for about 15 yrs. and usually fish it in the winter. Until this year!!! Thanks to the guys on this site talking about big perch on Lake St. Clair back in early Feb. I haven't been on the lake since. In the summer, I spend every available fishing day on the Great Lakes. Usually Erie, since it's close.

yeah, i had a rough go of it, and from what i saw out there, most people had the same story. only seen a couple fish caught from 11AM-8ishPM. From what we heard from a few people, the morning bite was pretty good but then they just absolutely shut down.

Ed, we were jigging. Haven't gotten into the handlining yet. I think the waves were from the current and the wind coming out of the south. I usually only see those kind of waves at the south tip of Grosse Ile on a weekend in the summer.
