need a model number....or some other type of id. the serial number is not helping.
check on the block on the right side and there should be a series of numbers there that will have a model number contained within.
with that we can run it. it would help if there is any names or Id on the cowling to boot.

Thanks!
I wasn't sure how much info was needed to find the year. Its a Sportwin or something like that.
She runs real well but I'm considering getting a new 25 hp. The poor thing only pushes my 14 ft Starcraft about 7 or 8 mph.
Anyone got any recommendations on where I can get the best deal on a new motor?

Brian,
here's one place to start.
Online Outboards (http://www.onlineoutboards.com/)
About a year ago I was considering a new motor but found out what the problem with mine was and it was minor so I decided to keep it going. Besides, a new mill just wasn't in the budget anyway.
Here's another source too :
boatmotors.com (http://www.boatmotors.com/rebuilt_outboard_motors/)

Thanks for those web sites jpollman.
Now I have another question.
I know my transom is 20". The motors listed have 15" and 20" shafts. Obviously the 15" won't do but is the 20" what I want? Is there such a thing as a 25" shaft? I hate to ask dumb questions but I never paid attention or measured the shaft (for that matter, where do they take the measurements from?).
I can just picture ordering a 20" and the prop doesn't stick out below the bottom of the boat and then the salesman will say "What did you expect with a 20"?

You are correct Brian. If you have a 20" transom, you'd want to order a 20" shaft. (commonly called a "longshaft") Might be able to get longer in some situations but it's not needed. The transom is 20" high and the 20" shaft length of the motor is correct for that size boat. When the motor is mounted on the transom, the prop will be in the correct position for proper operation.

Don't know yet.
Antiques Roadshow maybe?:D
I'll probably hang on to it. I have a 14' aerocraft that I use as a duck boat, maybe just use it with that.

Brian S,
Give "Van's Sports Center" in Grand Rapids a holler. Sorry I dont have their number and have never been to this place but heard lots of good stuff about there used outboards. They're mentioned in few threads here on the site. Good Luck!
Hey maybe if you decide to part with the 'rude I can get in on it? Had I remembered I might have had a Johnson!
