I'm looking at buying four winns with a 115 Johnson OB. It only has about 140 hours and everything is close to mint on the boat but the engine needs a ring job. The price of the boat and acc. makes it a good deal IF getting the ring job is not too expensive. So, ball park, what would a repair like this go for that if it's the only thing that needs to be done? Just looking for a ball park figure here on the ring job to help me decide.

what happened to this motor? I mean it's only 9 years old with low hrs?,,,did she stop getting oil? ,,,
not trying to be a pain here but how do you know it only needs rings? is that what the seller tells you?just how low is compression? any small silver balls stuck it the spark plugs?

I don't know yet. My wife saw the boat and said it's in mint shape except for the motor, but I know what you mean tho, low hours with a possible burned out motor makes me wonder too. If it just needs the ring job, and if I have an iball park dea of what that will run, I may take the next step of having a mechanic give it check out even before I consider dropping the coin on it.

Good idea to get your boat mechanic to look at it. Definitely get a compression test done! I learned hard way 1 season after getting my boat(had to rebuild the power head - not cheap either).
