View Full Version : 100 gal Heating Oil - Free
I've got at least 100 gallons of heating oil in a small above ground tank that used to heat a mobile home. It has been sitting a while since last used (15+ years) but still looks fine - I'm assuming it may still be a cheap source of fuel for someone.
Anyone in the Chase, MI area who has an interest it is there for the taking!

Meb,
you might want to contact a recycle company for that. Fuel oil that has sat around for that long will be full of water from condensation from heating and cooling from the weather. it is not a good idea to try to use it in anything it will cause major problems.
I hope this helps
Thanks for the insight Taxi - I presumed the you might want to use caution with fuel oil that has sat around awhile - esp for a primary residence that might still be using heating oil.
On the other hand, I've known contractors in the past who would eagerly take old heating oil like this and use it in various types of oil-fired furnaces used in garages and pole barns etc.
I've checked into recycling firm thinking they would take it for little or nothing and was surprised to learn the cost is significant.

That was my thought....
Possibly somebody with a Salamander type heater or oil fired furnace in a pole barn or something. I'm not certain but I would think it would probably be ok for an application like that.
Good luck getting rid of that stuff. It can be a real problem. Just like old paint and chemicals. I've got a bunch of old stuff like that of mine but the previous owner of my current house left a lot of crap like that in the shed when he left. I just sorted it out and have it stuck in a corner of the garage. I think my city just started do do a "Haz-mat" day where you can take stuff like this to dispose of it. I better check into it because I'm sick of storing this stuff !

I would be interested in the fuel does the tank go with it or do I need to bring a tank and a pump. PM or email me with the details and directions. I can come most anytime so let me know.
Thanks
