Granholm kills the $300 insurance fine
Penalty for misplacing paper gone; here's how repeal, refunds work

That indefensible $300 fee for not carrying proof of insurance -- even when you are fully insured but simply misplaced the paper proof or forgot to carry it with you -- is history.
Gov. Jennifer Granholm signed the repeal of the ridiculousness on Thursday. The state began sending out letters last winter demanding the first $150 payment; the fee was to have been assessed at $150 a year for two years.

Does any body notice how the media trys to make her look like a hero?

"Granholm kills the $300 insurance fine"

So she signs it into law 5 months ago, then repeals it.....our savior:rolleyes:

Ya know, you're right Neal. I never thought of it that way. SHE is the one who signed it into law ! It's not like she undid something that Engler put into effect. She's just undoing something that had her blessing in the first place.

I hope we can get rid of her in the next election !

Deepwoods, I wasn't criticizing Granholm, as much as I was pointing out the bias in the media. The average Joe would look at the headline and think......cool, she saved us from a terrible evil, instead of just overturning her own decision.

the good news is this just shows, that her mind can be changed with enough public criticism.......Like maybe tha dove bill.

Neal,

I didn't take it that you were. I personally don't care for her and think she is bad for the state. My point was that at least is this is something I am in favor of that she has done in office.

RR,

Your right.

Agreed.

But she's not the only one who wronged. It was bad legislation before it got to her office.;)

You took the words right out of my mouth. She was too busy honoring Ceaser Chavez to have anything to do with getting around to actually help citizens of this state.

I haven't checked out her rearend for a while.

Glad to see that thing go! I haven't been busted by it, but I think it was a crappy law.

Looks like a lot of Michigan citizens complained about this law, both to their reps and the gov's office.

If we do the same thing again about the Uninsured Motorist Fund racket, maybe they will see the light and get rid of this obscene way of shaking down the people for their hard earned dollars.

Keep writing those letters, sending e-mails, faxes and phone calls when Lansing does something stupid, it works.:D

We weren't discussing eastside - westside relations.
What we were asking about was westside- Lansing relations.

i agree with that, but at the same time that it makes her look for a hero for repealing it, she was also made the villain when it was signed into law even though it passed both houses by a HUGE percentage.

so it works both ways, kinda like a quarterback on the offense of a football team. If you score a lot of points, no matter if its your running back or wide recievers fault, you get a lot of the glory. If your line can't block, recievers can't get open, and running back can't run, the QB gets run out of town and ridiculed first and foremost.

She didn't right it herself. A bill was passed in Congress, and she agreed by signing it. The heat was on both. It was bull****, and they all knew it. Now, what about the extra $127 per vehicle we all are going to pay for this bull**** no fault insurance?

Dogjaw, "Now, what about the extra $127 per vehicle we all are going to pay for this bull**** no fault insurance?"

The no-fault $127 is a Republican Insurance industry scam.

It was the same "Republican Insurance industry" that gave you a larger rebate than that a couple years ago as I recall!

I don't agree with the whole Republican characterization to begin with...but I am not up in arms about this as we got a rebate for each vehicle within the last few years.

The Dems and Repubs both are in on this crap. And scam it is. It's time to get rid of this pipe dream called no fault. Both parties have had a majority and no one has gotten rid of it. The sooner it's gone, the better.

This so called law is pure trash. Does not matter if a republican, democrat, libertarian, green party, independent or whatever inacted this piece of tripe, it need's to be repealed, fire all of the insurance people who sit on this board, I will personally take any lawyer involved on an overnight fishing trip and guarantee that he or she will not be at work the next day.

If you cannot afford to buy or pay for insurance for your f""aking vehicle, then don't drive, pretty damn simple, at least in the "hood" that I grew up in!

Simple thought for a simple mind!
