I'll be heading out of the Fairhaven launch at the crack of dawn. Anyone else going out. Perhaps we could compare notes by radio. Joe G on channel 68. I'll be on the St Clair River by Algonac until noon or so. Looking for walleyes. Perch are too elusive for me right now.

I think I posted this a little late in the day. The weather tomorrow isn't gonna be that great, but I simply can't wait any longer. If anyone wants to give a shout from their home base radio, I'll let you know how it's going.

FRIDAY NORTH WINDS 15 TO 25 KNOTS...BECOMING NORTHEAST 10 TO 20 KNOTS. A CHANCE OF SPRINKLES. WAVES 2 TO 3 FEET.

I'll be traveling the St Clair river from North to South. Those winds should push me along at a very quick pace.....Not good. I'll try backtrolling first, with the Buggy Bag for back-up. I'm pretty new at this, any advise, besides stay home :)

Might be out in that area saturday if I hear good things from you. I have most of the day off tomorrow but we are doing a little house shopping. I hope you do well, I would like to hear some good reports closer to home. I have not fished the SCR much but need to figure it out now (close to home). I don't have hand line reels and won't be able to get any riggers on the new boat for a while so I will be jigging or using dipsey's. Pm me if you ever want to hook up and try to find some fish. My only advise is to fill all your tanks before it goes over 2.00 a gallon. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

I'llbeoutside, Tomorrow is the prefish on the SCR. I will be taking a guest there on Saturday to show him a good time (I hope). So I'll be out there Saturday as well. Let's keep in touch. Channel 68, or the Algonac, Russel Island area. I have always used poles with a jig head or dragging bottom bouncers with a harness. Not to say they don't handline on the SCR, I've just never seen it done on the lower part.

If buggy bag means a wind sock type thing for slowing your boat down, I don't think that works when backtrolling/vertical jigging. It will work to slow you down drift fishing, but you need boat control while jigging, and I believe the sock will inhibit your control (you will be fighting the sock and the wind trying to back up over your line). Don't be afraid to use your big motor if necessary to back you into the big wind and waves to try to stay on top of your line and maintain feel with the bottom. Pop in and out of gear as necessary. The waves may be crashing over your stern, so be careful depending on your boat. Also don't be afraid to go to bigger jig size. You'll still catch fish with a clunky jig even 1 ounce, but you won't catch any if you don't have the "feel" (i.e. dragging or drifting the jig, instead of lifting and dropping on the bottom). Good luck!

Thanks Neptune. That's what buggy bag means. Looks like it won't apply in tomorrows north wind. So I'll back troll, and probably be kicking in and out of gear a lot. Thanks for the tip. I do have a high stern so that shouldn't be a problem. Hate to lose that protective front canvass wind blocker though. I have my fishing cloths ready to go now, but I think I'm gonna double the attire. This is going to be one heck of a test for my first knowledgable vertical jig trip, thanks to the advice from people from this site. By backtrolling, I might as well open the windsheild widows too so I aint sailing along at 20 MPH. Only 1 hour and 45 minutes 'til launch time. :)
