I am new to the site, but not new to the river (3rd gen river rat). I am sorry to say, but I think water conditions have become very poor in the upper river and don't look good for the weekend. I was catching some fish jigging earlier this week (not slaying them, like HotWired), but catching a few. Don't have Canadian license yet, so couldn't get to sturgeon hole. It was very clear on Peche Isle side before yesterday, a bit muddy on U.S., by Angel, but not unfishable. Today, between Peche and Angel, was extremely muddy on both sides - the type that looks like it may take days to clear. I am downtown now, and it looks like chocolate milk on both sides, from whiskey plant to bridge, with small strip of clear in center, I guess due to channel current. Winds forecast strong from N/NE today and tomorrow not good. Supposed to lighten up towards weekend, but probably too late. I'll probably go anyway this weekend, but my guess is that handlining will be only chance - maybe by whiskey plant, cow pastures, DYC?. I hate to be bearer of bad news, and I certainly could be wrong, but I wouldn't get too excited about this weekend . . . . .I will update if anything new . ..hope for the same from others ps. the reports on this site are great - in addition to water clarity, lure type and color, people should report depths at which they're getting fish - I find on the river that fish tend to hold at the same depths during a given time period (i.e. 20-22; 24-25; 27-28; 28 plus, etc). I will report on this detail once I start actually catching fish regularly again . . . . hopefully soon!!

Ed,
If you are looking for a guide, call Jon Bondy. He is the best on the river, and I know he still has spots available. Here is his web site
www.lakestclairfishing.com
Good luck,
Mike

Hey Mike got the pm thanks alot, Jon sounds like a good guide can't wait .
Told him that you sent me he told me to tell ya that just cuz you got a boat now does'nt mean you can't fish with him anymore LOL.
If you ever have an empty seat send me pm even if it's short notice cuz I'm self employed now and can pick up and go anytime. Thanks again,

Neptune,
I heard your fishing partner is a much better fisherman than you! Is this true?

Ed,
Read your post about a guide. Jon is good no doubt. Another good guide that has some open spots is Bob Devine. He lives on the upper end of the river and guides out of Windsor.
You had mentioned jigging and I know that is one of his favorite things to do. If interested, you can look at his website for more info - www.chartertalk.com - or get a hold of him directly at 519-984-4899.
I know he gets real busy this time of year, but if your schedule is flexible, he will make things work and do a good job. A few weeks ago he said that mid-week openings were more plentiful than the weekends.
Regardless of who you go with and however you get out - have a good time!
Bob
