Proposal bans cities raising minimum wages
Senate bill allows living wage ordinances only for city workers
The proposal was approved by a 3-2 vote of the Senate Commerce and Labor Committee. Republicans Jason Allen of Traverse City, Michelle McManus of Lake Leelanau and Wayne Kuipers of Holland voted in favor of the proposal. Democrats Mark Schauer of Battle Creek and Dennis Olshove of Warren voted against it.
The bill, sharply different from a version that passed the House more than a year ago, now goes to the full Senate.
