I'm not to sure on panfish but water temp has a lot to do with walleye when the temp of the water gets 40 ,42 deg. they come alive.

Personally I like any day that is sunny right after ice out for gills. I've seen schools of bulls up in 2 feet of water even though it was on 40 degrees out as long as there is sun.
I look at it like us. Your in the house all winter and that first day where the sun feels warm you head out and get active. I think the fish are the same way. Use small baits, small jigs tipped with a waxie or I just use my ice fishing tear drops.
Hope this helps.
-And don't knock In-fisherman its a great mag. in my opinion-:)

My only problem with this website is that I can't get it into my bathroom. I need some reading material:D :p
I'm just saying that magazines like In-fisherman and others give actual teckniques and go into depth at a regular basis. They give you idea's to try. Many times on this site you get the general idea of what someone is doing and how they're doing it. Not knocking this site. I love it. But there's nothing wrong with more knowledge!
-I guess I just need to get a laptop for the bathroom-:p

Infisherman is a great source of information, but it can't beat the real time local info provided here. Thanks to all the great members and please give a little when asked. It helps us all!

Flyfsh4trt and I have been catching bluegill on flyrods in SE Michigan for the past 3 weeks or so. We look for days with a heat spike (40+) and fish drop-offs, and shallow muck flats with nymphy's and egg flies.
