Take a zoom super fluke and cut off the tail.

Cut off the tail of a zoom ultra vibe speed worm just where the ribbed body begins.....just cut off the flat hook tail part.. This worm must be watermelon/red.

I use a pencil soldering iron to weld soft plastics as you have to heat both surfaces simultaneously......you can use a candle, but it's hard to do...

Weld the hooktail onto the back end of the super fluke....be sure the flat hooktail is welded on horozontally......not up and down...
the hook will point to one side or the other....

Fished weightless, the fluke is a great topwater on the sweep pause sweep or steady retrieve, and still has a wafting fall if you are deadsticking. Pulled underwater, the tail throbs as well.

Now go back and measure the speed worm body from the nose and cut it at 3.75 inches. Texpose the worm body and use it for slo fall and deadsticking........wacky rig if desired.

About the topwater fluke.....the color of he tail does not have to match the fluke. Watermelon/red works the best of all zoom colors when fishing the speed worm body.

Good tip with the soder gun too. I ve been using a candle and it does discolor the plastic some and burn your fingers alot. Ill use a wood burner I have.

A super fluke is a soft plastic fish like lure made by Zoom Bait Company. It resembles a fish and comes in a number of colors.

Bass Assassin also produces a similar bait......and other companies do as well.

Some use them for slow falling and deadsticking, some use it as a jerk bait.......some fish them weightless, some weighted....

A few wacky rig them and use them that way as well.

the strike king zulu will float a 4/0 hook the way it comes out of the package. $3 at wal-mart per package. these are the new 3X plastics that are nearly indestructable....4 per pack.

i'm not trying to step on your toes LittleMac.....just thought of those of us that don't have the available time to "perform surgery" on our baits.

your idea is something that i may try, to make some custom colors and sizes.

the strike king flukes come in several sizes...go to www.zoombaits.com to check them out.

I understand what you are saying about spending the time, but at 10 seconds total for a fantastic lure modification, I don't get to where I feel I'm sacrificing anything. The topwater action tail is incredible and also having a slow fall bait and a throb on the pull underwater makes it a versitile lure for certain.

I texpose the leftover speedworm body and slow flall that to for an effective bait on largemouth and smallmouth alike.....so it's something I'd be removing anyhow. That's how I stumbled on to using the tails....both vertical on the lizard and horozontal on the super flukes. Both can be fished topwater, underneath and wacky rigged as well.

I'm not being critical, but I thought zoom bait company just handled zoom baits..... I'll have to check that out...didn't know they handled Strike King as well, but maybe so.

I'm unfortunately triangulated between two trout streams and a 36 mile reservoir south of Knoxville about an hour. To be specific, not far from Madisonville, or Vonore. We transplated here 11 years ago and really consider it to be a goodly piece of paradise.

The trout streams are stocked with rainbows, and the reservoir just above ours getting toward N.Carolina has some walleye and a number of good sized smallmouth. Both reservoirs are hard to fish, though, in general....

Wife and I spend a lot of time fishing in kayaks on a small mountian lake about 3/4 hour up in the Tellico Mts.

it is very beautiful country in that region.

i can't get down there as much as i wish, but when i do, i make it a point to travel the back roads as much as possible, just to soak in the serenity.

have you ever tried carolina-rigging a fluke or senko for the smallies.....works for me up here, may be a good technique on the resevoir.
