"Spain (AP) - More than a million demonstrators jammed the streets of Madrid on Friday night, huddling beneath umbrellas in a steady rain to protest the train bombings that killed 199 people in the country's worst terrorist attack.
Millions more turned out in Barcelona, Seville, Valencia and other cities - including Spain's Canary Islands off the coast of West Africa.
Spanish officials initially blamed the Basque separatist group ETA for the stunningly well-coordinated series of 10 explosions Thursday during Madrid's rush hour. Later, they said they were studying a claim of responsibility by a shadowy group in the name of al-Qaida.
"March 11, 2004, now holds its place in the history of infamy," Aznar said Thursday.

This attack, that killed 200 people, and wounded 1400 more, was perpetrated against one of our most staunch allies in the war on terror.
The attack occured exactly 2 1/2 years after Sept 11....exactly 911 days.....March 11 2004.
The war is not over, and we cannot forget. With elections approaching please remember that we are at war, and we as well as our allies are still being ATTACKED!
We cannot afford to put a president in office who will bow to terrorists, or end the war on terror. The time is now to increase our offensive, and smash these wretched bugs.
To the people of Spain, I say a prayer for your country and people. We are in this together.
Lock and load, stay angry,
stay vigiliant...

It's time to finish the job. It's time to roll over these guys with combat boots and tanks. I wouldn't want to rile the Spaniards. Someone made a BIG mistake. They were there for us. Pres. Bush said we would be there for them. I agree.

Great post, Huntnut.
It is horrifying to me how many Americans seem to think that international terrorism no longer represents a real threat to us. How soon we forget!
I attended a little conference at MSU this week, and the instructor made a remark about how his area of environmental research was underfunded, because, he smirked, resources were needed for the War on Terror. There was substantial grumblings from many of those assembled, in agreement, and with seeming disdain for our nation's focus on fighting terror (War on Terror, yeah, they grumbled). Most of the attendees, FWIW, were public sector employees. The attitudes of some of these people disgust me.

What was it I heard.....900 and some days since the last attack in Madrid...
How long was it between the first attack on the towers and 9/11...something like 6 years.
You know bad things are going to happen..They can't watch everyone, all the time. You just hope you aren't in the area when the s*** hits the fan..
I just missed getting blown up at the olympics in 96 by about 25 minutes...I had been standing about 20' from where the bomb went off... Talk about a cluster...... Glad I had to go to the bathroom...Looks like beer saved my life!!!!
I have a hunch that this "war on terror" will outlive me...Hope I'm wrong on that one.

This a MAJOR sign, they should lift the terror level to high, at least. I dont like that they raise it to high for nothing, but,for something like this, they don't, or, did they??? Haven't heard anything on it. I think we have to do something before something bad happens......

dogjaw is right ,it is time to do something about the cowardly attacks but what?
latley I have been feeling very angry about those folks in the whole middle east region, I dont care what religion they follow all I know is unless they are actually worshipping satan, their god would not agree with the way they bomb innocence.
I am feeling like those who live in the middle east should take a massive stand against the terrorist groups, instead they play passive and blame everything on u.s. policy.
if as a whole the arab community cant possibly live in peace and respect what others believe in, maybe they all need to be elliminated from the face of this earth!!!!!! venting I guess sorry:mad:

I agree with what the movie actor James Woods had to say after 9-11, "Turn that part of the world into GLASS" !

There are several things that I've noticed about the Middle East peoples and religions.
1) All religions have a problem, they're all man made. Think about how many Muslim and Islamic sects there are in Iraq alone. When compared to the amount of Christian sects here in the U.S., it wouldn't seem a big deal, except for one thing. POWER. The different religious sects want power and control over everyone else, and are willing, it seems, to do anything to achieve that end. RELIGION IS BEING USED TO INCITE PEOPLE FOR THE PURPOSE OF POLITICAL POWER. Iran is a perfect example of this.
2) That brings us to the religious leaders. I firmly believe that a lot of religious leaders of ALL faiths enjoy and are hooked on the power they have over their "flock". Some of those even abuse that power. We are all human after all.
3) Think of this for a moment. In general terms, Christians and Jews display symbols of their faith that relate directly to the Deity. The Star of David, the Cross etc. Paintings and other images are of Biblical scenes and events. The Muslims and Islamic are always seen carrying large posters of their religious LEADERS, not the Deity. They are praising their leaders, not God. That speaks volumes. The religious leaders are the true power brokers.

Boy was I wrong! Spain rolled over exposing their belly like a lap dog. They must be taking French lessons on how to wave the white flag.

They rolled over so fast it made my head spin. After some of the best economical growth they have seen in years they go and vote in a socialist party. Unbelievable! It was the fastest economic growing EU country. Watch them go back to 19 or 20% unemployment under the socialist government.

It was real sad to see Spain fall on its face. The worst is who will they turn to for help when the worst happens?
Hmm it wouldn't be us would it?
The other side of this is the middle east itself. I am not an expert yet I have studied some of the stuff on this area. Before the attacks and then some more after them.
First the Islamic faith like others is man made and yes it has its flaws. What is different though is there are very strict practices to a devouted practitoner of islam. Theay must pray at this time of day ( several times a day ) they must do so in an exact manner.
Now nothing wrong with that I am only pointing out that if you can get mass numbers of people to do teh exact same thing at the exact same time because it is said to be the way you are to do it.
Then you also have succeeded in making it easier to control these people. If they believe so firmly in following that they never question and do it willingly then through religion you can control them. This is why the religious leaders who believe in Terrorism are able to get people to volunteer to die.
With that there is a question I will ask and you really need to think about it even though it is kind of funny when you do think about it.
The middle east has been following its ways since the muslim religion began. When it began what was America, and Europe at the time?
One was a wilderness with only Native people making a life out of foraging and struggle. The other was a society of kings and nobles ruleing others in feudal society.
Fast forward.
What is the middle east like today?
They still wear and believe in the same clothing they did back then. Sure it is made of different material and some different styles but the basic is the same.
Their belifes and society are still the same. The boundries have changed and there are other items that have made it easier to live.
What is different about Europe and America?
I will not even try to list this you get the idea.
If since their begining they have not been willig to stand on thier own and demand change does anyone think they will ever really change?
In order to change the way that region exists is to have to fundamentaly change their beliefs and to give them a sence of self worth. How many century's will we spend doing that?
Do I support the troops and what we did ? YOU BET I am a vet.
Do I think we will see Iraq or any other country realy change?
Nope I think it will flow smooth for a while then another tuff guy bully will apear they will go OK our religious leaders say he is OK so he must not be bad. Poof back to the way it was an dhas always been.
