Hello!
Does anyone have any experience using such a unit in a boat, or have any good ideas about how to rig the iceducer? I do not want to either damage my vex, or my friend's boat. Just want to possibly use the vex on the Det. River. I also do not want to spend too much $$ so am open to any "inventive" ideas.
Thx

I have it in my boat, mounted on a little shelf right next to the eagle 320. I bought the transom mount transducer, dual beam of course, for my FL18. I just put the pro-pack in its box for summer, take the head unit and attach it to the included gimball mounts in the boat. I like it a lot more than I like LCD! (but that could be because my LCD isn't set up right, I always trust the vex though.)
Vex's are excellent on a boat, nothing will find scattered forage like a god old fashioned flasher. As Scotty says, they make all the accessories you need to do a proper installation on a boat.

I put mine on the bow. Cost me $105 for the kit which includes a tranducer for the trolling motor and the mount (with wires). I use it both summer and winter.

Thanks for the great replies!
I love my vex for the hardwater. What the dilemma I have is that I do not want to "mount" anything in my buddy's boat. I just want to rig something up while I am "scabbing" a ride with him. Basically I want to use it with no impact on his boat.....(since I am a guest)

This might work for the transdeucer.

I cheaply mounted a fl- 8 ice ducer on my boat. I cut a piece of 1 1/2 pvc pipe just a little shorter than the transducer for a holder, The transducer fit perfectly in the pipe. I mounted a piece of pressure treated wood on the transom and angled it so when I screwed the pvc pipe to it, the transducer would hang pretty much perpendicular to the water. Then I can slip the ice transducer in and out of the pvc pipe whenever you want. It has worked great so far and didn't have to spend all the money on a new transducer. If you want more details pm me.:)

on further reflection to make it more portable use a stick of pressure angled treated wood, mount the pvc to it and C-clamp it to the transom. From my experience it should work.:)

walleye Mike, where did ya get your kit? I have been looking for somthing like that for my fl18. I think the vex would be great for vertical jigging.

thanks, I was wondering should I go with the 12 or is the 9/19 worth the extra money. I know how sonar works and all, its just that I will only be using it for vertical jigging in the detroit river (10-30) fow. there are not that many steep drops in the area I fish.

I always say if you don't have it you can't use it. (9-19 degree)
Maybe you will use it in the future on some other lakes or rivers, never know!!!

Mike your a man of my own hart! I just ordered the 9/19
Why can't you just toss the floating transducer over the side of the boat. Might not work for fast trolling, but still fishing or drifting would be fine. It would stay vertical, under the float.

I bet with any boat movement at all it would drag and not hang vertical, but heck i suppose someone's gotta try it right. Sure somewhere someone has. The fl18 has BL mode which holds the bottom to account for up and down motion.

Great ideas all. I think I'll just give RJF's a try since it doesnt cost anything. Besides, we are just going to be jiggin.
Thx!

In calm water, I like RJF's idea...can be good for finding those suspended panfish over deep water... and then to see how those fish are reacting to your bait...
