Please help me and 10 other friends find a place to go fishing. the last few years we have gone to Canada to a lodge. After a little inconvenience at the border we have decided to look for a place in Michigan. These guys I go with are casual fishermen and we need a place to stay with boats and motors. We are hoping to find a place that may be similar to our Canada experience?
thanks, Jeff

I would recommend Lake Gogebic. All species, lots of places to stay, Great scenery. Also maybe lake Michigamme, but I am not sure of the lodging situation as I have always camped.

Try Fletchers Floodwaters near Alpena. 10,000 acre lake full of stumps, without any jet ski's or pleasure boats to bug ya. Plenty of big Bass, Pike and pan fish.

Try this place. Hotel, cabins, restaraunt, bar, bait shop, boats and motors all at one place.

Those are both good suggestions. You might want to purchase a couple fishing magazines like NAFC or In-Fisherman,etc..They have a ton of ads in the last pages, for alltypes of fishing resorts.

I would not recomend Houghton Lake.....lots of jet skis, pleasure boaters, etc...not that there is anything wrong with that stuff but it is nothing like a quiet fishing lake.

birdog 20-
I'm a little curious why you've given up on Canada because of "a little inconvenience at the border"? We've been going to Ontario every spring since the 70's, and yeah any time you cross an international border for any reason you have a bit of "inconvenience". But it's pretty straightforward. Only one time in all of those years have they given us any unreasonable difficulty. Unless you're a wanted felon, or want to carry firearms across, you shouldn't have much trouble?

PS- I fish quite a bit in Michigan, including the UP, and in my opinion, you'll be hard pressed to find anything in Michigan that comes close to a Canadian trip. But maybe someone can prove me wrong.
