First off, Love this forum
Second, I live with my wife and 3 daughters, enough said.
I love fishing and due to the ladies in my life, have been away from it for awhile. I moved up to Traverse City a couple of years ago and am now getting back into it. Discovered Salmon fishing and am now addicted. That and walleyes will keep me busy (I hope). Problem is I don't have anyone to fish with except my 4 year old.
I've purchased a used 21 footer and am now getting it outfitted. Need the downriggers, fishfinder, radio and a couple of more rods and I should be good to go.
Look forward to sharing stories, tips, etc.
Name is Chris, but you can call me Oriondad, Spike, or just call me for a beer!!!

Welcome Chris. Seems to be quite a few of us from TC finding this forum lately. I joined in last month.
Might have to hook up sometime for a fishin trip. I have the same problem. Bought a 20 footer, new rods/reels. luhrs etc 2yrs ago and the only person that has gone with me after the salmon can't run the riggers or steer the boat very well. Makes it a heck of a workout trying to fish the "hole".
Our last trip out I told him to aim straight for the park place while I set the lines(sounded easy enuf), and to watch our depth(also seemed easy). After getting the lines down, I looked up to check the rod tips and was looking right at the park place:confused: , then the lines started slamming bottom:( I guess 85' of cable and 40' of water doesn't work well. I figured the only reason they didn't hit sooner was because our speed was almost 4 mph:rolleyes: A situation like that makes a guy wonder if its true that a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work:D
BTW wednesday mar 10 some of us on here are meeting at la seniorita on garfield around 5:30 or so, if your interested in putting some faces to the names. If you can make it just ask the hostess for the Michigan sportsman group. Well I guess I rambled enough.... Jody

OD,
Welcome aboard!
As mentioned above, we'll be having a Meet n' Greet at the LaSenorita on Garfield Ave (near the airport). Some of us will be there around 5PM or shortly after. Join us! Just tell the hostess that you're with the Michigan Sportsman guys.
As for fishing patners there is a growing number of members from the TC area. Keep ocming into the site and look around for them. Someplace in this computer I'm keeping a list of NW Michigan members. Right now I can't think of where it is (Word Perfect perhaps?). You'll be able to hook up with several of us if you keep active on this site.
On the Saturday of Labor Day Weekend we have a great salmon/trout fishing fun tournament out of Manistee. I'd urge you to join us, with the warning that a lot of blood, guts, and "bad words" are spilled out on the lake on that day.........LOL! Of course I'm just kidding.
I hope to see you this evening at the Meet n' Greet.

Chris,
By the way, that is a nice fish being held up in the photo with your postings. Is that you?
About the fish, although it's a nice one, it would be bait for the knowing skippers and crews who partake in the MS Manistee Labor Day Weekend tourney.........LOL! Of course I'm just kidding and don't mean to demean a great fish shown in a great photo.
I'm a retired teacher. Hunter is a teacher. If you would like one of ust to write you a note about why you MUST be at the Meet n' Greet tonight, let us know. Wed be happy to oblige...........LOL!

Whit,
It is indeed me in the pic. Taken two years ago on my second salmon charter. I believe it was nibbles. Went on another one last year as my boat was not yet ready. I hope I don't need to charter one this year. I am hopeful that I can be successful enough that I don't need to pay a charter to catch some fish. That's the whole reason I found this forum, was to pick some skilled brain cells as to the "how's" and "where's" on not only Salmon, but Walleye fishing as well.
