You can start now, as long as you don't have any ice-but you will need to scout a little bit to find them. Last year was my earliest, I went out the last week in feburary (yes Feburary) & got a dozen.
Alot of areas still had ice-but I found some shallow areas that were mucky & ice free. This particular area was very small & adjacent to a drop off-the Carp would just come up from the deeper water & mill around. unfortunetly they were unsuccessful when they tried to leave:D

Nah, I'll wait til the weather warms up. Our tournament is the first week of June, I usually get some shooting in that weekend and the previous weekend (memorial day)

Well actually.....I have taken a few carp using that method. Much softer landing in a foot of water, yet equally amuzing.:D

Most of my shooting/wrestling is on the shoreline of Saginaw Bay between Caseville and Bay City.

Is bowfishing open everywhere now? Or is it just open on streams until May 1st? I want to try it this year on Bellville lake.

House,
Check in the fishing regulations. They have a section with all of the opening dates as well as any other rules.
I only carp shoot on lake st clair & in saginaw bay. (those areas are open all year for carp shooting):D
