The river is high and fast. The usgs site has readings of 9.43 feet and streamflow of 3900 cubic feet per second. The good news is it is on its way down and if we stay dry for the next week we may see some fair to good water conditions by mid to late next week. Ideally I would like to see it anywhere from 4.5 to 6 feet that is when the fishing gets better. Hope this helps anyone interested. Also you can access the above info at www.usgs.gov
If you go be safe and post your results.

Heavyshot - Thanks for the info - hope it settles down for next week-end ! Did Your Dad tell You about the Civilian Spotters that are going to be helping The DNR from now until the close  ! They will be working the Flint, Cass, Shiawasse and the Tibb, plus many others. Sure would be nice to have the water at the level of 4 Years ago, Man what a blast! Talk to You. Bob.

I was at the river about an hour ago. It's still high and fast, but I was able to see rocks in about a foot of water. I'm still waiting to fish, but it looks a little better anyway.

The water below the Holloway dam is as high as I can remember in a very long time, and the water in reservoir is high as well, looks like there is still plenty of water coming in from above the reservoir as well.

Yeah the water level is crazy at the dam. I gave up fishing there on Tuesday of last week when they really opened her up. Whoannes keep in touch via PMs , I plan on fishing the resevoir hard during april/may before the pleasure boaters get out of hand.

Walleye fishin' from a bass boat?? Ok I guess we can let you get away with that.... :)
I'll be out there as much as possible early season, once the jet sk-idiots come out I head for more peaceful waters :) One of us ought to be able to find some fish.

I have always had excellent luck on walleyes out there during the week before and after memorial day. Don't know why but have caught quite a few then I recall a day when I was limited out in about a half hour. Try the stretch between Goose Point and Columbiaville don't bother with anything up by the dam oh and Purple tiger tots or tot with alot of yellow works great. Everytime I clean a walleye during this time period I have always found there bellies full of some kind of baitfish that is pretty bright yellow don't know what type of baitfish this is but it explains why yellow works so well. Hope this helps.

Heavyshot,
Are you long lining with the tot's or a different rig ( In-line sinkers, 3-way's, down riggers)?
It's to close for me not to try.........again!
Any particular depth or speed??
Need all the help I can get on that body of water, eventhough the magazine articals state that it has the most walleye per surface acre.
Thanks and good luck!

I troll the deep water out by the dam in the mid to late summer and usually do ok. I always lose too many cranks down by GP. YoungSteve run tots off your inline planers. Ripshad is my crank of choice at the Helloway. In May I'll always have 1 or 2 lines with meat.....been tying harnesses for a few days now.
Steve its tough man....too close to home not to try, rumors of more walleye than there really are....I feel your pain. Drifting lindy rigs should be productive too....although I always seem to get crappie instead of walleye. When I start nailing them I'll send you a PM :)
You ever grab one of those dead flint river shad as they float by? Oh man just a warning, don't, they are some greasy smelly minnows, takes a week to come off your hands.

Young Steve, The water is a bit shallower in the above section I usually shorten it up a bit. I run the tots on yellowbirds or off a mast when fishing with one of my partners. But I have caught a limit or two just letting them go off the sides and back in just rod holders also my prefered speed is between 2.5 mph and 2.9 mph. hope this helps and good luck.

I have a marine radio that I got last year that I will put in my boat this year and like scotty, I can have my FRS with me if need be. My bass boat don't have rod holders so I don't troll but my brothen-n-law has a Lund, that we use for Waleye. If he don't sell it this Spring that is. He's thinking on getting a bigger boat. Hey Scotty, if you would like someone to go with give me a PM.
