The ice is cleared, very few fish yet but big gar and buffalo carp, you can catch pike at GrandRapids on big minnows. Id try the lake first if you have a boat or the deeper waters towards downtown Toledo , I bet they are staged up there already. Tonite the water was like glass but not a bite off of Luna Peir yet. But I did have 3 snow geese to keep me company out there in the dark, it was very cool..
thamks lunker, boat isn't ready yet. snow geese eh, used to see a ton of them down at erie gun club in the fall, also a few around mouille. to bad we don't get enough to copensate for the spring hunts like out west.

Yeah I just got back from Maumee and 2 guys trying didnt have a bump yet. This reminds me people if you come down dont try to anchor in the fast current, get in one of the many calm water spots behind an island or around a bend first. It was this time last year some guys from michigan decided to anchor off the back of their boat and right in the middle of the current. They both died and one wasnt found for a while. This river is very fast and treacherous if you arent in slack water.
i was down there last year when that happened. that river is a smoker even after a slight rain. normally we just wade the rapids above bluegrass and stay close to shore and to avoid the crowds down below at the parks. did also watch a guy go for a heck of a ride after trying to save a jig caught on a rock a couple of years ago, lucky there were people down stream to help him out. also these guys anchoring need to put a lot of slack out there incase of a surge and also keep a sharp knife handy. better yet just stay in the slack like you say

Checked out the river 3-5-04 and its raging pretty good. The 400 MPH winds are throwing around some big time lumber. Saw a 30 foot tree just blazing down the river with that fast current. The water at the Jerome Road and Rapids area is up into the trees. VERY VERY muddy....Couple weeks, we will be good to go....We need some nice weather to get the water temps into higher 40's and no rain to bring down the water level....Not too much longer
