I noticed that the perch fishing starts to pick up at this time of the year through the ice anywhere from 8 ft to 35 ft deep. I was wondering about when the ice first melts. Like in the southern counties of Michigan, our lakes have opened up completely. Where can I find perch at this time? When is the best time to fish them? With what bait?

Wish I could help Henry. Dont know much about Southern Mich lakes. Our Mid Mich lakes are still iced over. Although a good hard wind would finish many of them. When the ice goes,I plan on some perch fishing. I will post here as soon as I do.

In the meantime,Im planning a trip to Linwood or Pinconning next weekend. I have some info on perch fishing in the cuts off the Bay. Should be a good place for the kids. Suckers should be running soon also.
