How's the ice on the saginaw river?

Sat. (2/28), Wicks Park area - 6" clear w/8" white. Solid as a rock.

a friend of mine took his boat to gordonville road on the tib sunday. there were 4 boats already out there fishing, but ice had moved back into the ramp. once the dam opens up today you should see the ice on the tib start to break up. this can only mean bad things for the saginaw down stream.

Didn't get a chance to fish yesterday, but I drove over the Center Street Bridge and the River on the South Side was open and there were about a dozen people fishing from Shore. As I crossed the bridge and looked East of it, there were 2 guys ice fishing. I thought, man those guys are crazy. Hard to tell how much ice was on that side of the river.

fished this morning by Independance bridge in Bay City, about 50 yards downstream of essexville discharge(open water):eek: saw alot of fish caught from 3 to 6 lbs.(maybe a dozen) I had no luck, my buddy got 1 about 3lb. lots of current, and ice going fast. I wouldn't go there and cross to that side of river after today. The boat launch side has about 10 to 12 inches of ice, and you only have to get about 20 yards out to be in over 14' of water. Might be o.k. for another couple days, but I'll stay away myself.

Went out by light standard at river mouth later on, and about 10" of ice, but some open water by first red channel marker out there. Ice seems to be funny in this area. I did see quads still coming in from out by Island though. Lots of water on ice, rain isn't going to help:mad:

Ooops forgot there is 2 boat launches there now, when I said boat launch side, I meant the west one.

I realy wouldnt worry about ice out in the river now guys.get your boats ready or fish from shore where you can.Be safe and smart dont risk your lifes for a fish or two its not worth it.:D :D :D

fished gordonville yesterday in the 14 ftr, nada.. water is very high and fast, some ice coming down, but small chunks. lots of grass, etc so constantly cleaning the lines. one other boat out for 3 hours or so and skunked too.

the ice on the sag river in bay city is gone.
