Anyone know where to find Morels in central Michigan? Where's the best areas to look?

jdf870,

I'd start by finding a stand of Poplar trees or old elm-tree stumps. Morels seem to do well in either kind of environment.

Good luck,

I also do well by looking under ash trees, particulry farther north. Walked out ln the woods in Hillsdale co. day before yesterday and picked 28 ( 6 and 7 inchers ) under a dead elm tree. they went in the cast iron skillet tonight. Can't be beat...

It will soon be time to hunt Morels. Here's some ideas on where to look. Also, check out the "Michigan Non-Game Animals and Plants" forum for other discussions on finding them.

Hows this one? Was down in weastern Kentucky at the daughter and son-in-laws place last week. Had a post card with a nice picture of white morals on it and asked the son-in-law and one of his good buddys if they had morals down there? This is what I was told "Ya but we callum Dry Land Fish down here". When asked way there called that David said "because ya go out ahunting em like you was a hunting up a mess o crappies then fry them up the same way". Man just can't argue with logic like that:p Might have to slip down around Ft. Wayne this next week and see what I can find. Will let ya'll know.:D Benji.
