Hi everybody-was wondering how everyone did that went out trout fishing this opening weekend. Where'd you go, how'd you do? I fished the Muskegon Sunday-all I caught was a sunburn. (at least it was a beautiful day!)

I floated the Ausauble from Commins Flats to McKinley. As usual on opening day, I got skunked. Brown caddis were hatching all over the place, but there were no rises. Guess the water is still too cold. Had a blast though and made my reservations for Memorial day weekend.

Come on guys. I was not able to attend opening day this year (first time since I was 8) and I was relying on some good stories from you guys. Fish or no fish, location or no location, let's hear those stories of slurping trout and hendrickson snow storms.....

I didn't do any flyfishing as the creek I was fishing is too small to flyfish, but I did catch three small browns drfting worms. I put them all back because they were too small to keep but I'll be back there, last year i saw a guy catch a 18" brown in a spot where the creek is only 6 ft. wide!! Big Al

Well I ended up getting out sunday and had an excellent time. Fished several spots along the white river starting at a small trib that empties into the the north branch, the north branch itself, and then a couple more spots on the main branch below hesperia and near white hall. Nothing real eventful other than I landed a six inch brookie and a nine inch rainbow with my fly rod. Other than that I got a couple suckers and an alewife using wax worms down on the lower river. Saw one lonely steelhead making its way up river just below hesperia. A beautiful day on a beautiful river what more could anyone ask! Shoeman, you were right, the white is a hidden treasure! I will definitely be back!

Met with a bunch of good folks Saturday morning and tipped a glass (or two!) to past opening days and to remember old fishing friends. After that we went to a cabin on the Manastee near CCC and fished for an hour. Traffic was intense so we sat on the hill and watched the parade the rest of the day. Yesterday I had to work in the morning and was told the hendricksons came off very early in the day. Drat! Slammed streamers into the night and managed to get a few heart stopping hook ups. Wish I didn't have the heavy artillary with me as there was a great spinner fall towards dusk. Today was the day! The hendricksons came off in big numbers, not one person came down the river past the cabin by 2:00 and life was good! Very good! Two nice browns came to hand well in the mid-teen range and several others fell for my parachute adams.
Is this a great state to live in or what???

Yeah king- The locals know where to go. I got a tip on this spot on the muskegon. We went there after leaving the crowds by the damn. Best spot I've seen. No one there but one guy. Myself and the amatuer group I was with couldn't catch anything of course. But watch that one other guy haul in 6 huge steelhead. Right beside us! He was using spawn though and we had our fly rods. Hey at least we looked cool with all our fancy equipment! :) The steelhead where feeding like crazy... should have brought the spinning rods and spawn. Oh well, thats how you learn.
