Well I fished lexington harbor from 8am till 1pm this after noon. Not much was happening then except a monster jumbo perch that was caught in the back of the harbor.About 10:30am I drilled a hole next to the guys who caught that perch. It was a spot where the perch biting last year at this time.Anyways I was using large emerald shiners when about 2 minutes later a got a couple of good strikes then whammo the pole went down.I jerked up to set the hook and my drag was too lose. The line got tangled all around the spool of my reel.So I proceded to pull the fish up hand over hand fashion.I got the fish up to the bottom of hole just below the ice when I noticed that it was a big white fish that looked 3-4 lbs.It pulled down when it came up to the top and then snapped my line. This has been my one and only whitefish ever.Too bad I was bummed and excited at the same time.I didnt get no other hits and niether did my buddy who I was fishing with.I dont know what was going on by the boat launch but it must have been slow over there.By 1pm everybody that had started fishing in the am had left including me and my buddy.I was getting slushy the 1st 3 inches but a solid 15 under that. The shoreline on the north side was melting rapidly today.I hope the ice last for at least 1 more weekend.I want another chance at a whitefish there.I have been told that there have been several white fish caught near where I had mine hooked in the last couple of weeks.

Sounds like there still are no steelies around.......I guess that halted planting of them is making the fishing slow after all:mad: ... Was anyone even seeing any steelies? or just browns, whitefish, perch, and suckers? .................................................. I was fishing with a guy by the boat ramp 2 springs ago that caught a 5 pound whitefish

If the weather keeps the ice around, I plan on being back on Sunday.

Well I was using large emerald shiners about the size of whales. Also corn was used but nothing took it.Im sure theres a bunch of fish swimming around in there somewhere full of corn that wont be able to be dijested because I put some down several holes.I wanted to use brown trout or steelhead spawn but I left home forgetting my tackle box which had some containers of it in there.
I prefer to use my old telephone crank shocker but its not legal to fish with. If you get a chance to get there and fish wigglers, spawn, waxies, and minnows should all work well if the fish are there.People with underwater cameras seen lots of trout and other fish in various parts of the harbor but they just had lockjaw:rolleyes:
