I have a serious illness according to some. I rather not catch a river run king at all. They just get in the way of the fish I can not get enough of STREAM TROUT! I have only recently started fishing for them.(5 years) I am not much of a flyfisherman. I do what it takes to get my fix of seeing the incredible colors of a stream fish. I have been known to drive all the way to a western U.P. stream that will remain nameless just to catch a brook trout of mammoth proportions and only be able to fish for 5 hours and have to run back home to make it to work on time. My wife says I am nuts to drive 11 hours round trip to fish for the afternoon. Due to the obsession I have I joined a recently started Trout Unlimited chapter. I took a postition on the board to work with the DNR in setting up and doing stream projects to help the fish I dream about every time my eyes close.
The only thing that is more important than trout fishing to me is my wonderful family.
I own my own bussiness. I work in 9 different counties on a regular basis. This gives me a good excuse to stop and streach my legs in one of the local trout streams where I am working. I still work for the parent company that got me started in my own bussiness. THe owner is a great guy and does whatever it takes to keep me from giving up that job. With 2 full time jobs I still hit a trout stream about 3 times a week over the traditional season. There are times I give up a nights rest just to be on the water.
I also do a little deer hunting I only take nearly everyday of november off of work. I may deer hunt a few days the rest is spent on a open river.
I have been to heaven and back twice. The first time I did not even know it. That was the first year I came down with this illness. I was fishing a river that is not even a trout stream that I found held a fair number of trout. I had just seen a show from Alaska where they were catching bows past the 30" mark. On a misty afternoon I landed a incredible 27" bow. I now realize that fish was a once in a liftime Michigan Bow. The only thing I have of that fish after releasing it is the memory. THe second time was last May when I landed 3 browns 20 inches and greater out a small stream. That same bright sunny day I seen the brown of all stream browns follow my bait to the tip of my rod and slowly slip right on past when he saw teh rod tip move as I tried to keep the bait in front of him.
Did I mention I like to fish for stream trout. :)
