Going to simcoe next friday March 5th! has anyone heard of any reports from there? We have used everything from waxies with glow jigs to guster hooks and even just plain minnows. What I would like to kow is what is everyones favorite simcoe tip or technique? I have picked up some tube jigs and some other stuff to try but would appreciate anyones ideas! ( ps we are using yellow huts because we do not have a quad or snowmobile) ((I know that quads or sleds are the WAY to go but they were just not in the cards this year)). Thanks in advance and feel free to just keep adding your opinions even if someone else has said it first!:D

Hey

i am heading there Monday and leaving on Thursday. I will try to post the results of the trip as soon as i get back into town for you. Went three weeks ago and fished cooks bay with good success its been good this year. Move until you find fish!! We use hali spoons with tear drops tied about a foot above with minnows or waxies and light I mean light rods, and jigging russian hooks with waxies or spikes. The bite has been real light but they are there... Good luck let us know how you do.

Just giving you guys a heads up. I did well earlier in the year. This time of year tends to slow down a bit. My parents and 2 other family members went this weekend with Hales huts. They did horrible. 12 fish between 4 in two days. Nobody came back with fish in all their huts. @ weeks ago, my buddy did well on the north side of Georgina Island near the trout grounds in 25 FOW. If you are using a hut service, you better hope they are in because moving is difficult, and no fish makes for a long day on the ice. This time of year, being mobile is the key.

Last ice is always the best at simcoe, Just remember it's big water when you on em you catch em, when you not you don't.. good luck :)

Maybe I will us the hut service as a starting point. maybe I can use it as ground zero. Once they get me out there I can move around and look. Sometimes its just a matter of moving even a couple hundred yards and bam your into the fish! Then if the weather is bad I can just stay in the hut and hope for the best. How much ice is there on simcoe. I have both a power auger and a six inch hand auger. As the hand auger is brand new its cuts fast and quick and two feet of ice really would not be much of an issue. Alot will also depend on wether or not the snow has melted. If it is good walking we might abandon the hut and just walk.

Any tips or tricks though, no one has been forthcoming!
Also I always heard last ice was the best on Simcoe?!

thanks for your input

Going to Simcoe this weekend after some perch. The key as everyone else has said is be mobile. If the fish are in basically anything will work. Are best luck has been on wigglers. Couple of tricks to try. When fishing in the portable I always use two rods. On one rod I will have a double hook set up. I just tie two fly snaps in line. The hooks will be about 12 inches apart. The to hook will be a small tear drop (glow or green prefered) and the bottow hook will be a hook similar to a genz worm ( my favorite is a mitzi ditzi but they are real hard to find anymore). Many possible set ups with this a minnow on the top hook and wiggler on the bottom hook works well. I usually go with two wigglers though. That rod is a dead rod. The other rod I will jig a Jack spoon, swedish pimple, or a rapala constantly. The jigging will usually draw them and get some of the active fish. A lot of the less aggresive fish will take the dead rod. One word of advice though when using two rods. When an active school comes in just go to one. If not you will spend more time untangling lines than catching fish.

Leave the bait at home ,and use your spoons. I have limited ,and then some every trip this year. Mobility is the thing right now. The slush conditions are terrible. Even snowmobiles can get stuck.

EP,

Me and my buddy limited out over there this weekend. We fished close to the yellow huts for a little while on Friday afternoon. Picked up a couple of fish there and saw a few other guys with fish. Our hot hole was south of the yellow huts. Closer to the green huts. And when I say hot hole I mean just that. About 170 of 200 fish came from one hole. Dropped my buddys camera in the water for a look. Found that we were sitting in a aproximately 10' x 20' opening in the middle of a big weed bed. Perch were feeding heavily on grass shrimp and scuds. There stomachs were just packed with them. Caught most of the fish on wigglers and a few on a assortment of other lures and baits.
