A young boy came to Sunday School late. His teacher knew that he was usually very prompt so she asked, "Johnny, is there anything wrong"?
The boy replied, "No, I was going fishing but my dad told me that I needed to go to church".
The teacher was very impressed and asked Johnny if his dad had explained to him why it was more important to go to church than to go fishing.
Johnny replied, "Yes teacher, Dad said he didn't have enough bait for both of us".

True Hamilton Reef story:
I was raised in a Muskegon Hollander neighborhood that had all those Dutch Sunday taboos such as can't do anythhing on Sundays. My family was certainly going to H*ll, because we were normal and went fishing, hunting, and even watered the lawn on Sundays. I was to saved by constant hounding to go to their Sunday school. I finally went in the "off" season.
Meanwhile, my father and I were dedicated brook trout fishers in the thickess of tagalder swamps. That meant every winter we would pre-tie up short #6hooks with 4#-test leaders wrapped on a small boards for fast leader changes.
I always sat in the back row of Sunday school.
Teacher, "Tommy. What are you doing back there?"
Tommy, "I'm tying up leaders."
Teacher, "#*#*#*#*", something in Dutch I didn't understand.
Teacher, "Tommy, Where have you been the last two months?"
Tommy, "Trout fishing. I told you why I was tying up leaders."
Teacher, "#*#*#*#*", something in Dutch I didn't understand.
We lived a half block from the church. When the new church was built they put in a clay lawn. I put in some seed nightcrawlers. After that my father and I always picked up 4-5 thousand nightcrawlers off the church clay lawn in the spring to stock up for the summer. We had plenty of bait for both of us.
