Ontario Fly-in Trips

Looking for info on walleye fly-ins, anyone have experiences - good or bad - on different areas or outfitters. We'd like to be as self sufficient as possible. In the past we've just driven a couple pick-up campers north out of the Soo but have had to change plans.

I have used White River Air once out of White River On. I've spent ALOT of time over the last 25 years fishing Ontario between White River and Carament and usually would "bushwack" it with a tent. I was NOT impressed with White River Air. The cabin was the pits (tent camps cleaner)and the frig sat outside and we had to make a homemade orfice to get it to work AFTER we brought it inside. I found out that one of the Owners had let his kid and others use the cabin before us and had not thought to check it out afterwards!

Several years we drove to Hornpayne caught the VIA train and went west 300 miles and got off at Flindt Landing. Has five cabins and clean (mostly "wife-proof")on an island. The rates are right and the walleye fishing is great. The last time I went I took my 75 year old dad and he caught the biggest walleye of his life (7 1/2lbs). We went the 3rd week of August and caught upwards to 100 walleyes a day averaging 16"-22". Flindt Landing is about 20+ miles east of Savant Lk on the rails. If you want to do something really different, I highly recommend it.

We fished twice with Nakina Outpost camps, flying out of Nakina and fishing lakes about 70-100 miles N.W. of Nakina. Thier cabins were clean, but spartan. There is usually one group leaving as the other is arriving, so you are at the mercy of thier housekeeping skills. There was a propane stove, refrig, and lighting, and a wood stove for heat. The boats and motors were in good repair, and they did a midweek check and brought in more fuel as needed. Facilities were outhouses, and you had to haul your own water from the lake and boil it. On one lake, we were the only cabin, so we had the whole lake to ourselves. We fished for walleye and pike, and there were trout and perch available as well. Ate fresh fish for 7 days and never got tired of it. Any more specific questions, don't hesitate to Email. We had a blast, and I would highly reccomend that everyone do at least one fly-in trip in thier lifetime.

I like the idea of a train, My wife and I are looking at going somewhere next spring, she doesn't like flying.

The Flindt Landing has "wife-proof" accomidations if you reserve the cabins with the indoor shower & toilet, there are three. The 1st time we went the wife was very happy with the cleanliness but the 2nd time she wasn't quite so happy. Bob's wife (daughter of the Owner) had left the week before so one of the camp helpers did the cleaning. A "lick & dab" job don't ya know!!! Right now Dave Gist, the Owner is in South Bend IN. Until I bought my new Ford this winter and camper, my wife wanted to try Errington's Wilderness Island resort. It's off the Algoma rails out of the Soo (www//Wildernessisland.com
We both very much enjoyed the train "adventure" and that's why we were looking for other places to ride to until I got the truck & camper. Wew're going back to semi-bushwacking & some long distance travel. I recieved litature from several other railside resorts last year. All appear to have widely differing accomidations.

And yes I did have a brochure from Sonny Bob's but I think I discounted it and threw it away though.

Thanks for sharing the pictures, they definitely give a person the fishing itch. To bad you can share them wioth evrybody else.

We just had a warm spell, snow melted alot today so open water fishing isn't to far off.
