Anyone still using the ol perch eye for bait. As a avid jig fisherman I havent used a perch eye in quite a few years. Spikes are my main bait with a few plastics included.Just wonderin.:)

I still use eyes all the time. One of my favorite tricks, is to put on a wax worm, fish eye, then another wax worm. Works great for me on perch.

Haven't done it for a while. This weekend at simcoe the fishing was pretty good. But I was having problems keeping fish buttoned w/ a jig, bead, and spike. I took the bead off and replaced it with an eye, not only did i not have to add a spike but the hook ups increased alot. I think i am going to start using them alittle more

Wonder if frozen perch eyes would work?

I use perch eyes all the time winter or summer I have caught perch walleyes pike and a couple of muskies on them and you can freeze them but it works best if you put them on a sheet of wax paper then just peel them off and keep them in a plastic film can. they need to thaw a little to put a hook in them. I like them because you can catch many fish on one and not have to screw around baiting you hook after each fish.

What is you preferred method for getting the eyes? I remember one time being down in my basement with a bunch of perch on the table, and taking a spoon and getting them out. In the middle of it all, I had to ask myself, what am I doing with my life?

Then I continued. :)

I cant take credit for this someone else showed it too me. You will need a 4-5in.long copper tube(use smallest diameter). Take an old steel leader or something like that, place the wire in the tube so that there is a loop about the size of a white round bic pen or a little bigger. Now flatten the tube so the wire stays in the loop at the right size. I used a pair of pliers too make it. Just insert the loop in the eye socket and spin or make a side to side movement. The eyes will come out perfect. Takes 5 min.too make. Hope it helps. Marq. (A.K.A. Flatrock).

Marq; All you have to do to get perch eyes is put your thum under the eye and push in on the perch's face and the eye will start to pop out then slide your thum under the eye and you have a perfect eye. Easy.
