Heading to Simcoe next weekend with gsepan and a few of our buddies. We rented a fishing hut that sleeps 6 and can be fished out of during the day. This will be my first trip to Simcoe. We're fishing out of Gilford. I was wondering
1) whats the best lures to use for perch
2) whats the best lures to use for walleye
3) whats the best lures to use for white fish
4) whats the best watering hole around Gilford
Question #4 doesn't have anything to do with fishing, well it kinda does but I thought I'd find out if there's a good bar in the area incase the night bit is slow. :D

For perch when we go we usually use a spoon with a barbless hook with a bead, people usually call them just beads. Unfortally I don't know what they use for white fish or walleyes. I am 14 so don't drink.

You likely won't catch walleye's in Cooks bay. As far as the hut goes , in Cooks the action can be real hit, or miss. Are you guy's taking a snowmobile with you? I would. Try the hut they give you for awhile then if that don't pan out there are humps out in the middle of the bay that often times will produce. Or find the dropoff and fish from 22-36ft along the drop. Out in the deeper water suspend your lure 10ft or so off bottom, jig the hell out of it for a couple minutes ,and stop. repeat. alot of times you can get them to come up for it ,and knock the hell out of them. Really though cooks would be my 3rd choice as far as perch action is concerned, alot of little ones there. For a good watering hole head down to Newmarket, on Hwy 11. There are a couple good adult establishments there. I haven't been there though in afew years so I don't remember the names. Be careful about drinking ,and driving over there, you think were pricks when it comes to that , they take it even further.

I just got back from Simcoe this afternoon. I think we rented the same hut as you will be getting next weekend. The fishing was slow to say the least. Three fish for five guys in two days. Chuck's advice about moving a lot could help your odds. Although Saturday, a couple huts over caught around 40 Perch. Last year when we fished out the same huts, we caught Perch on Swedish Pimples with minnows or large spoon type jigs. You might want the check Angler & Arches on 23 mile. They might be able to give you some more insights.
If you are staying in the hut over night, here are a couple thoughts. I don't think that will bring you in to go bar hopping and then take you back out. The cabin is set up with small table and chairs, a bathroom of sorts and a couple of electric lights powered by a car battery. I would suggest you stop at the duty free before you go over the bridge, and pick up some beer/alcohol and play cards at night. The beer was $15 a case with no deposit charged. I think you can bring over a case (or liter of hard liquor) per person for consumption during your trip, but you might want to check to be sure.
PM me if you have any more specific questions. Good Luck!

It 's a little early for me to say for sure ,but I might be there next weekend also. . You'll have to Pm me Don, I'll get you my number, If we are on them " which we will be" we can see about getting you guy's over on the fish. Unless of course they get you on them. If you are out of Beaverton , we will be just across the way from you. I would Imagine the huts they sre taking you to are just back to the SE from where we have been hammering them. I'll know later on in the week.

I sell ice flies on ebay and a couple of local guys form the Lake Simcoe area buy them. They take the hook off a flashy spoon and tie about a one foot dropper on the spoon then tie a baited ice fly to the end. They say the fish are attracted to the spoon then hit the ice fly.
