Monroe County hopes muskrat becomes recipe for tourism success - 02/21/04

MONROE -- They feasted on muskrat sloppy joes, muskrat tacos and muskrat “cigarettes” -- muskrat meat rolled in tortilla dough and deep-fried.
Then they feasted their eyes on “Francois,” the first of many fiberglass statues of a muskrat that might start showing up at various Monroe County businesses and institutions

Muskrat love in Monroe

Your average nonartistic observer of muskrats — those of us, for instance, who don’t keep roadkill in the freezer — might think it difficult to sculpt a 4-foot-tall version of the aquatic rodent and have it come out cute and cuddly as opposed to, say, vile

Grew up down in that area, went there all the time for the "rat" It is great stuff. I have a friend who traps "Rats" down there and from time to time he will give me the meat from a few. Tastes to me like a cross between squirrel and rabbit. If you get the chance to try it don't pass it up..

The place in Riverview discussed earlier is Kolas Kitchen and if you ever get a chance you need to try the Muskrat Breakfast sausage they make (at least I think they still make it) I used to eat it as a kid at Church Father and Son breakfasts and it was the best!!;)
