View Full Version : soon?
With the rain predicted for friday afternoon and a little on saturday as well as warm temps..any predictions on how long the ice will last? This should turn the fish on,we need the water temp.to go up a few notches to turn those hogs on..I cant find the weed bed that used to be to the left of selfridge about an eighth of a mile and out from shore about 500 yards..about ten years ago used to catch some nice gills there. Was out today at selfridge ,had to work for them, walking back i picked up two empty propane cannisters, whats wrong with people,no common sense or responsibility...Im hoping sunday should be some good fishin ,heading out to barracks early in morning if anyones up for it

Don't worry about the ice. There is plenty there to fish on for at least the next couple of weeks. I say we will still be ice fishing on March 15th.

Mike is right BUT if we get a good west wind some of the ice, in the usual rescue spots, will go bye-bye. After the rain be careful, ice will be slicker than usual, and watch the winds.

Great, another weekend with howling winds. The only thing that could take the fun out of ice-fishing for me are some 30+ mph winds

Note: Lack of experience with LSC so be kind in your response. ;)
Is there any open water on LSC? If not, how could the ice move with strong winds? I mean, where is it going to go?

Yes there is some open water out there. Shoeman posted that the south end of the lake had some so if your in that 10-14 mile road area, keep an eye on the wind. Also my dad was out by south river road on weds. and said that the mouth of the clinton river was opening up a little bit. with the wind, rain, and current some more will open up. The ice should be in good shape for a while but it'll depend on how hard it rains. My advice, go fishing but be careful and keep an eye on the wind.
Plus I was talking about the guys that were going out past the point of metro or south of the spillway, usually the ice at gino/metro sticks around longer in closer to shore.

I was out yesterday at Conqour Bay and there was open water out on the lake. My friend I was with did go thru the ice, and I heard of 2 other guys that went thru also yesterday. Most of the ice is safe but there are some bad spots.

Areas that are known to have current the ice may start to get a little iffy. The out at the points at Clinton River, Metro and down the mile roads, the "gas" pockets @ selfridge will have less ice than the beach front, back boat basin (which should start picking up soon) out front by Ginos, Fairhaven, etc. This is the time of year that fishing near the pack isn't a bad thing you know that the ice is safe.
I'm not trying to be doom and gloom, I just want to see everybody that heads out makes it back in w/o a rescue.

be safe and fish on!!!
